rwa2468 0 #26 May 13, 2011 Davelepka pretty much hit it IMO. I'm new to the skydiving world, I just did my first tandem at Skydive AZ last month. A few years ago i was considering my making my first jump at SDC (I lived in northern Illinois at that time). I remember having conversations about jumping at that time and whenever the topic came up there was always someone willing to poke their nose into the conversation and tell us to stay away from SDC because of their lousy safety record. Now I'm not sure when things changed at SDC but from what I'm hearing now, being more educated (and obsessed) with skydiving, SDC seems like an absolute great place to jump. There will always be those that only hear and accept the negative and I believe 99% of it comes to education. I see it constantly with other topics as well, gun control being the most prevalent. Do these same non-jumpers listen to Jim Rome. He is the world's biggest asshat! On his horrible little radio show he made some typical uneducated whuffo comments about SDC and I will always hate him for it. Yes, it has probably been over 10 years since he opened his ugly trap, but he will never be forgiven. (of course there was no apology for his stupid inaccurate remarks). Though I have only been to SDC a few times, I have always had a great time, the staff was alway happy to help, the facilities were top notch and Jim Rome is a Douche Bag. jBe kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. Douggarr 6 #29 May 13, 2011 Keithbar is indeed correct. Nothing has changed since '69. If you started on the dope rope, then your first free fall was a case of beer. Then 100, and 1000, etc. Bottle of booze of choice for the rigger who packed your reserve on a cutaway. Not beer for the DZ when you had your first malfunction. This has gotten out of hand largely because rookies are taking everything so literally. Whenever somebody utters a sentence with the word "first" in it, somebody jokes that it's a case of beer.SCR-442, SCS-202, CCR-870, SOS-1353
Krip 2 #30 May 13, 2011 Hi Mr Peek Quote I understand your point, but "little shit hole" is a bit harsh on small dropzones isn't it? IMO "a bit harsh" is a under statement. It's the internet thing anyone can say anything.ITSOC lets try and get back to the topic of this thread. If a wuffo doesn't want to jump at SDC because of a couple of incidents than why would they sign the waiver at any DZ? R.I.P.One Jump Wonder
