Let's remember how awesome this sport is!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hey all! Just wanted to pop in and say that personally jumping is definitely one of the coolest things I have ever done. It's so easy to get caught up in the the gear, or if it's your job to think of it as "a job" etc. Let's all take a minute and remember how cool this sport is and enjoy every single jump! Life is waaaaaay too short to not stop occasionally and appreciate our lives. Blue skies!

Sorry some had to piss on your parade.
You are exactly right, though. The roses are always better when you take the time to stop and actually smell them.

We DO enjoy an awesome sport. I'm thankful that I found it.
:)
My reality and yours are quite different.

Yep, some puss-faces would complain their gold is too heavy.

Haha nice one. Never heard that before. And I'll be the first to admit that it does have it's downsides and dangers...I'm a climber as well and there are some inherent risks. But let's be honest...if it were that bad none of us would be on here right now!

with 500 jumps in over 20yrs, you probably havent witnessed any brocken necks, couple femurs and brocken backs in your career.. not mentioning the people dying. good for you!

there's also puss-faces that dont have friends. :|

then give up skydiving if it makes you that upset.
I have had all of those thing happen to friends, (one good friend is still in hospital 3 years after a low turn) and I KNEW that was most likely going to happen when i did my AFF 1.

WAY to many people come into this sport too lightly.
People you know WILL die and get maimed and it might be you (or me) get over it, or go play something else.

It's a great sport, every now and then i do a solo and pull high, just to settle under canpoy and remind myself how good it is.

Sometime I sit in the door way on jump run looking out to the horizon, and think .."Man this is VERY VERY COOL" B|B|B|

You all need to go jump:)
You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky)
My Life ROCKS!
How's yours doing?

squeak, as much as i may not like you, or you may not like me; i do completely agree!

but however how great this sport is, and FUCK YEAH!!!, it is! sometomes, and even you will, you'll sit back and think; jesus-fucking-smokes-crack - we're probably all insane..

doesnt change the fact when you sit in in your harness after a nice jump, probably at sunset, look all over your country (I CAN), and think exactly what the OP stated..

still, it's not only flowers and butterflies..

but yea, if you skydive for the love of it, and i do, it's nothing to be taken away from you ever again.. :)

Thanks for this starting this post. With the recent canopy collisions and subsequent controversies over what to do, it is easy to get into a negative mindset. I love skydiving, it makes me smile. Sometimes, like now, I need a reminder.

Thanks for being a real downer. Go back and read the title of the thread, and the OP. Then go away.

I don't take it that VB wants to bitch as much as he wants to moan. After all, with 10,000 posts vs. 300 jumps, it seems clear where his interest lies.

@VB - fatalities, backs, legs, etc.... BTDT.

Definitely. I spent yesterday jumping with some good friends of mine - and got paid for it! More than made up for all the minor annoyances every skydiver experiences (like the drive and the 100F temperatures.) And this Saturday I get to do it again!

I did 4 jumps on Thursday starting out with a 7500ft hop n pop ,looking out across the Arizona mountains, I thought to myself..... Wow this is beautiful.. I just enjoyed the ride down. I am very blessed to be able to skydive.

I hope that counts since I only have 72 jumps over 8 months

i wasnt the first to mention jumpnumbers.. i was the one that brought up jumpnumbers over time.

u're doing fine!

and it IS a beautiful sport!

i just dont like the "happy only"-attitude some people bring up, even tough, they should know better..

the last couple of weeks were pretty bad! :|

You are right; I don't have that many jumps, never seen (personally) any broken necks or backs, or deaths. But I do understand the seriousness of the sport. I ride motorcycles as well (cbr600f4i track bike and cbr1000RR street bike) for years and have seen the accidents and injuries, but I choose to accept those risks and believe that since I've chosen to accept these risks, I may as well enjoy it!

Yeah, so I'm getting back after 22 years. Quit in '88, and literally dreamed freefall dreams for 15 years thereafter. Last weekend I made my 3rd jump after returning, and after stepping out of the Cessna alone, I was just thinking "WOW! This is just SO COOL!"
I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity and lack of inhibition to do this. Life is good!B|

I believe you have my stapler.
