Airviking 0 #1 April 4, 2011 Drove up to my local DZ/rigging loft to pick up my Harness/container+reserve yesterday. Brought my main with me to install. Figured I'd do it myself, since this particular gear is all new to me, and the more I handle it the more familiar I will be with it. I learned some of the many ways to screw up the process of installing a canopy onto risers. Nothing that a bunch of full linechecks didn't eventually fix. (If my math is right, there are 24 ways of ordering 4 lines on a slink, plus inifite ways you can wrap lines around other lines/ linegroups) It was a gusty day, so there was no sport-jumping going on. So there were a lot of experienced people hanging around looking for something to do. I got a lot of pointers about packing, some solicited, some just people walking by, all greatly appreciated. At one point, someone packing next to me pointed out that "what I just did" might be a step-through, which amazed me that she could sense something like that out of the corner of her eye, while packing her own stuff. Anyway, I'm 90% sure that it wasn't and that it was just me doing something unneccesary and risky by throwing the PC ahead of the D-bag before dropping the bag in the container. (What she saw was me pulling the bridle out from under the D-bag, which looked like I had flipped the bag through the lines.) Of coarse that 10% uncertainty will have me repacking it at home. More practice, more familiarization. But it was a great day, between meeting some good people, playing with my gear, and seeing my rig finally come together! Next opportunity, I'll be getting some air! Blue Skies!I believe you have my stapler.
wmw999 2,534 #2 April 4, 2011 This should be stickied to answer all those people who ask "it's windy all the time and I can't jump and get my license." This is what you do, and why. Wendy P.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence.
