Newbie 0 #1 August 22, 2005 It's exposing a very small section of the nut that you twist on the rapide link to open/close it. The slightest edge of the corner is protruding but nothing too significant. I'm wondering if i can put a small piece of strong duct tape around it, to stop chaffing of the slider grommet on this corner until i get it replaced? tdog 0 #2 August 22, 2005 I am not a rigger, but have you seen the goo that comes from duct tape as it ages... I wouldn't do it for long, just because I would not want the goo all over my rig. Isn't that cover just a plastic tube? If so, I would have thought the plumbing section of the local hardware store would have a clear plastic tube that would slide over as a possible solution??? wmw999 2,452 #3 August 22, 2005 Just go to a hardware store this week and buy a length of plastic tubing before you go to the DZ this weekend. Then you won't have to worry. Hooknswoop 19 #5 August 22, 2005 Just replace the Rapide links with PD's SLinks. No more slider bumper problems. Derek

The ding on the slider grommet will then rub on the lines every time you pack or open the parachute, wearing the lines prematurely. As others have mentioned, either replace the slider bumpers or go to slinks.
JohnRich 4 #7 August 22, 2005 If you replace the plastic tubing yourself, have a rigger double-check your work. If that tubing isn't secure on the link, it can slide upwards over your lines, preventing them from spreading apart as the canopy opens, or preventing the slider from descending all the way. You also don't want the link nut too loose, nor too tight...
