sinjin 0 #2 March 30, 2011 usairnet.com click on aviation forecast , then find your state and nearest city. at the bottom will be a button for the winds aloft. you can also go to aviation weather. there is a couple of charts there but it is a bit harder to read. format is direction, strength and temp. 311005= wind direction 310, strength 10kts, temp is 5 celcius.dont let life pass you by

peek 21 #4 March 30, 2011 Here is something I wrote: http://www.pcprg.com/cgi-bin/windsaloft.cgi The source of the data is explained there too. It is similar to this one that others have suggested: http://www.usairnet.com/cgi-bin/Winds/Aloft.cgi

popsjumper 2 #6 March 30, 2011 We get ours (ATL) from the NWS. http://aviationweather.gov/products/nws/fdwinds/dynamic/miami_fd1.shtml Keep in mind, the forecasts are just estimates. Compare different reporting sites and you'll see different values for the same city. And the reports will be "good for" different times of the day.My reality and yours are quite different. LyraM45 0 #13 April 1, 2011 QuoteI'm looking for a site to check winds aloft. Thanx in advance. What area are you looking for? For winds aloft (and other useful weather stuff) you can check out my offices website. National Weather Service unit in an air traffic control center for San Fran area, but my boss has created maps that are for the whole country: http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/zoa/mwmap3.php?map=usa So, say for example you want winds aloft for Sebastian area. Mouse over south FL area on that map and click anywhere within that area to get zoomed map: http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/zoa/mwmap2.php?map=zma Then click on KVRB: http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/zoa/getobext.php?sid=KVRB Up at the top there will be tabs. Click on the one that says RUC sounding and that will give you your full profile upper level forecast from surface up. There's also some other neat things you can access on the website, so play around with it. You can even book mark the mobile web page to keep handy on the go.Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
Skydivesg 7 #14 April 1, 2011 Our DZ has been using the site that Peek wrote for the past year and it is exactly the same forcast as when we call flight service. Many of the larger DZs are using it as well. Great job Gary. Very useful.Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
