guppykf 0 #26 February 15, 2011 +1...I can handle people much better than the dogs. I like dogs, but dont like little claws near my chute. I heard a few weeks ago a dog relieved him/herself on someone's gear.THRIVING IN MY DASH!!
skyjumpenfool 2 #27 February 15, 2011 There is a very good cure for the "DOG" problem... You gently pet the dog as he/she walks across your lines, then, you go slap the dog owner silly! ihazkittehz 0 #29 February 15, 2011 The reason they do it? Probably because the gear is on the ground. They don't know that its expensive. They don't know that dirt can cause damage. If they think about it at all, it probably goes something like this: "It's already on the dirty ground, why would my walking on it do any harm?" Make signs. Whuffos really don't know any better. ihazkittehz 0 #32 February 15, 2011 I sort of see your point, but people are familiar with clothing. They understand that part of a t-shirt's purpose is to look not-dirty. Also, a t-shirt is usually pretty avoidable when you are walking around. When a packing area is busy, it can be genuinely hard to find a clear path. Combine that with ignorance (of the monetary cost of gear AND the safety risk that dirt imposes) and laziness, and boom - whuffos be tramplin'.

Don't be assuming laziness where ignorance is sufficient. That just makes you bitter and/or angry. The world they are in doesn't include that stepping on a piece of string on the ground is a bad thing. Where do they see string on the ground? Gardening, camping, stuff like that. String is neither expensive nor critical. Be nice - ASK them not to step on things. It'll work wonders.

Trae 1 #41 February 16, 2011 in reply to "Why do whuffos walk on skydiving gear? " .................................. Something happens to a whuffo's brain when they wander around a DZ. There's just so many strange things for them to look at . All the clowns in their clown suits. All the rushy bustle of the weekend warriors. Controlled chaos and adrenalin anti-climaxes. Their fluffy heads are suddenly in the clouds and they don't consciously see all the stuff skydiver's dump on the ground. They in a dream. When whuffos are in this dream state unpacked gear really does look like rubbish .. so why not stand on it or kick it out of the way a bit.plus a lot of DZ's look like trash reclamation areas making it easy for whuffos to be disrespectful. Totally understandable whuffo behaviour

I've seen that, and the only down-side is that a skydiver can't invite someone they know to see how a parachute is packed. That's why I'm thinking that the exclusion should be limited to unescorted whuffos. I would tell a friend that they're welcome to join, just please don't touch or step on anything. That's all it should take. True. I was at Skydive Oregon/Molalla with a whuffo there for his first tandem and even though I was out of the sport @ the time due to a sprain, I accompanied him and took pics etc., and wanted to check out the facilities for future jumpage. Since I was still early in my jumping progression, and was not able to jump even if I'd wanted to due to the ankle, these signs were really kinda cold and off-putting, and I felt like I couldn't get a good vibe for the drop zone itself. Now, that is a new jumper trying to get a feel for a dz, not introducing a whuffo to the sport, but same concept perhaps- how can we get them more interested if they can't see certain aspects of what is going on??"You must be the change you wish to see in the world."
