Great Job by 101st Airborne Demo Team

As for the landing. Woops. It was definitely a mistake but it wasn't executing a dangerous move. He let up for the surge just a tiny bit late. I'm sure he was slightly embarrased but he did hit the mark. All in all, good job even with the mistake.

I was at the stadium and saw the jump. His landing area was set up by the south endzone and the band was lined up at the south 30 yard line all the way up to the north endzone. The wind was light but it was comming from the south, over the lip of the stadium. 3/4ths of the stadium is below ground level and there is no flow of air throught the stands. Basically it is a downward rotor machine. He did a great job with what he was given.

The local TV news showed the video of the jump today. They were raving at how wonderful it was. We jumpers need to remember that a demo is for the public, not for us.

Word

Adam and the guys on that team train hard, really hard. Rain or shine it doesn't mater to them and they jump their arses off.

Just dont ever get them to rescue you in a golf cart when things go bad. They're useless at that.

Might want to check deeper.
Yes, you need Stand Up landings.
But even after qualifying the best of the best will biff a landing once in a while.

I bet he has trained hard, scratch that, I KNOW he has trained hard to do it right every time.

I can not speak for him, but I will say in watching the video he did it all as he was trained and what is considered right in the DEMO Field, up to the Landing, and that was a minor input error.

Once you have as many years in the sport and over all jumps as any of the reputable Demo Jumpers out there, go back and look at your post, with its current years and Jump Numbers, You will see that by then you will have as many biffs on landing as you have jumps now, if not more.

A long time ago, 1976 or so, I flew "Parachute Man", Pat Mulhern, when he jumped into Philadelphia's Veteran's Stadium with the ball for the opening day of the Phillies season.

Actually, I flew him twice for the jump. On the first, a "practice" jump to show the Phillies' staff that it could be done, he landed on second base. For the real thing, he landed out in the parking lot. Pat did the right thing given the winds and wildly different readings from the flags around the stadium.

A FAA supervisor was in the stands for the real thing and filed a complaint against me for flying the jump aircraft. I almost lost my license over the issue."Open air assembly of persons..." But that's another story.

My point: stadium jumps are not easy. This one by the 101st Airborne jumper was fantastic. Great jump. Good for our sport. Wonderful video. Excellent work.

I won't hold it against him for being in the 101st rather than in the 82nd.

Airborne! All the way.
