skydiverkeith 1 #1 September 12, 2010 What's your target altitude for being under a fully inflated main canopy or your target altitude for initiating emergency procedures, whichever is lower. Include which of these you use on an average jump. RSL? MARD? AAD? Wingsuit? This poll isn't for meant for tandem jumps or CReW issues. Mine is 1800 using an RSL, AAD, and Wingsuit.Blue skies, Keith Medlock

mx19 0 #8 September 12, 2010 Mines 1700 unless I'm miles out into the lake then it's about 2200 as we will have usually opened higher anyway. I use an aad.
burtonjm 0 #10 September 12, 2010 Main deployment between 2500'-3000' Hard deck of 1800' per the SIM Edit: I use an RSL and an AADThis shit, right here, is OK
JohnMitchell 16 #11 September 13, 2010 I have an RSL and a AAD. My personal hard deck is below 1500. With that said, if it's hopeless, I chop much earlier.
cocheese 0 #12 September 13, 2010 Who has time to look at an altimeter? If I can't fix it in a few seconds, I'm chopping. Simple as that.
SRI85 0 #13 September 13, 2010 I like to be under canopy by3- 3500, pulling at 4000 i like staying up there as long as possible. i dont use an rsl.

LongWayToFall 0 #15 September 13, 2010 Yeah but what about line twists? You won't fight em for more than a few seconds regardless?
NealFitz 0 #16 September 13, 2010 1500 no RSL etc should say its dependent on the mal really. if im spinning on my back ill chop immediately but if theres a chance of a problem to be fixed then Ill try before choppingDudeist Skydiver #170 You do not need a parachute to skydive, you only need one to skydive again
cocheese 0 #17 September 13, 2010 I either commit to fix it or decide to chop. Yes i've spent more than a few seconds with line twists. I'm just saying that I don't really have a set altitude to go by. Almost never been low. edit to add: only chopped once. Decison was made 2.5 seconds after "opening". No RSL
absane 0 #18 September 13, 2010 Since I'm new, 2,500 feet. I deploy at 4,500 feet right now. A while back I almost hit my hard deck and came close to cutting away. A new packer packed the rig I was using. The left toggle released upon deployment and I spun into a line twist. The twist cleared itself but then I started to spinal towards the ground. I figured out the problem and fixed it @ 3,000 feet. Had few extra seconds passed, I would have chopped.Don't forget to pull!
727_Jumper 0 #19 September 13, 2010 in the 90's, jumping an F111 9 cell.. I thought nothing of a throwning at 2k. that was with an RSL. AAD? ha!, at that time, a very pricey option. FFD to today, Sabre2, AAD and Cypress; pull by 3k, there is about 1k of snivil (~), so I'm open by 2k and have time to deal with any malf.
labrys 0 #20 September 13, 2010 I usually open at 3K. My hard deck in that case is 1500. On the rare times I open at 2K, my hard deck is a couple of seconds after I toss my pilot chute.Owned by Remi #?
ianmdrennan 2 #21 September 13, 2010 If it's not controllable, and landable at 1500 it's gone for me. Only ever used that once so far. No RSL. Speed Cypres. Far as when I like my container open. mjosparky 4 #23 September 13, 2010 I would try to be open you 2,000 ft. When I deploy I look up and if I can land it I do. If I don’t think I can land it, it is history. I don’t do rigging in the air. In almost every case a malfunctioning square parachute will do nothing but get worse. thrillstalker 0 #24 September 13, 2010 i'm in the saddle no lower than 2500 (i pitch at 3 to 3.5). the lowest i have been opened is 2200 and that was a heli jump. if it needs to be chopped i am doing it by 2grand. i wish some more low jump # folks will chime in. rsl cypress 2"Never grow a wishbone, where your backbone ought to be."
