New AFF students take a look...

Recommended Posts

When you do your first jump..learn from my mistake. When you think your leg straps are tight enough...go just a little bit more. This was taken jsut now..2 days after my level 1 AFF.

i know where it came from though and how it got there. The entire canopy ride my shoulder harness was off my shoulders. i was suspended pretty much by the leg straps only..which was the painfull part. I tried pulling myself further up into the harness....but to no avail. It deffinately has not turned me away from the sport..just made more all the more wiser for next time....tighten them damn legs straps...lol

Unfortunately that's how the harness fits. You just hang by the leg straps. Any videos/pictures you see, if you look closely enough you'll see that the shoulder straps are up off the shoulders. Don't worry, eventually the inside of your thighs will get used to it.

What you have is common for the beginning student. Student gear is made for alot of different body type. Let the AFF nstructors adjust the students gear for the first jump, unless you feel your ready to take up first jump students? :S

I recently passed AFF and am working on my A - lots of solo and coach jumps (huge fun man!)- I still come home and a day later I have bruises on both sides of my chest (outer pecs) and every jump or so I have a nice bruises on my leg...hehehe I wear them with pride!
Cheers and have fun!

That kind of bruising was more common years ago with round parachutes and surplus harnesses.

What jumps out at me is YOU re-adjusted the leg straps after your instructor did it.

Did you misalign a comfort pad that's under the hardware? Did you make the leg straps uneven by over tightening one side?

I'll also throw some blame at your instructor for not keeping a better eye on you after he dressed you. If you were my student and I caught you doing that on an AFF level one you would have gotten an earful from me . . .

it wasnt the instrucotrs. When i first put the rig on it did feel tight..then after moving around with it i guess the leg strapes moved around and settled...which im assuming caused them to seem looser. I didnt tighten them by much at all...i know this because i didnt unravel the bundle from the first time. it may have been a 1/4 inch or so...but no more than that. I jsut know now to make them super tight...but not to the point of cutting off circulation...lol

MMMMM, I think she wins. I have had a lot of peeps ask me if bruises are normal but I don't remember seeing a more impressive example.

They usually become rare once you get a rig that fits well. One size fits none... or is that all?

Yeah, I know what you mean but I doubt it is worth the trouble.

They were oven mitts (not pot holders), so yes, the ones that fit all the way over your entire hand. I used the thumbs up method. However, to avoid any extra bulk and the chance of a "nut under" malfunction, I would probably recommend for you to use the thumbs down method.:D:D
