GuyMan20 0 #5 September 19, 2009 but i meant a website thats dedicated only to skydiving movies, with the kind of sorting, and an option to download the movie.. anyways, what about skydivingmovies.com ?
PhreeZone 20 #6 September 19, 2009 The site is currently looking for a host. It was being hosted for free by a company but that is not an option any longer. There have been conversations about how to restore some of its functionality but the owner of the domain is yet to make an announcement on its future other then options are still being looked at. There is no other site like it. Others have came and gone before it but none were the size or scope of what SM was.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

theonlyski 8 #8 September 19, 2009 Maybe make it into a torrent system, so that the only thing the sight has is a few hundered files that are the KB size, and all the movies are spread out across the interwebs. Makes for a much faster download too."I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message
drewcarp 0 #9 September 20, 2009 Thats a good idea. I would be more than willing to help seed the torrents. Any other piracy nerds be willing?

Inspired 0 #11 September 20, 2009 Are there any estimates of storage/bandwidth/software requirements for the site? One thing I noticed awhile ago is that there are LOTS of IT guys jumping from planes. Maybe we could collectively find a solution.
SKYgoonie 0 #12 September 20, 2009 I have accsess to as much as we want my buddy runs the severs for me and said its fair game. i could start cleaning it up a bit i just need videos put up on it. cha2e 0 #13 September 20, 2009 http://skytu.be I would definitely check out Skytu.be as it has no upload limits, is super fast, reliable, and will not be going anywhere anytime soon. If anyone is interested in uploading large collections of Skydiving videos to the http://skytu.be website, feel free to PM or email me or Skygoonie and we'll arrange this. Hope to see you guys on there!
thedude325 0 #14 September 20, 2009 Why is the max limit 150MB? I can't upload PDpacking.wmv. It's 162MB. This is a very popular video. Can there be an exception?
PhreeZone 20 #15 September 20, 2009 I've had some talks and it needs about 150 gigs of storage space. It was on its own 10 meg pipe and it was using a lot of that. I agree with Pilot Dave, whatever the replacement is - the site needs to be way more bandwidth friendly where it would convert the files to more of a YouTube style format with conversion to flash for bandwidth and storage savings reasons.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
cha2e 0 #16 September 20, 2009 QuoteWhy is the max limit 150MB? I can't upload PDpacking.wmv. It's 162MB. This is a very popular video. Can there be an exception? Yeah, the 150mb was just a temp limit. There is no upload limit on each account. I just bumped the max "filesize" up to 500mb for now. I doubt anyone will be uploading videos larger than that? If we need to though, I can bump it up at anytime. http://Skytu.be is on a 100mbit pipe with over 500gb of raided storage right now, and I can throw more at it whenever we need. That's one of the perks of running a privately owned Web Hosting company. Whatever we need, we've got. If there was some way we could get the old files from Skydivingmovies I'd be willing to spend a few days organizing and uploading them to the new site. Just let me know if anyone has these type of connections! I'll try to get ahold of the Skydivingmovies guy but I'm a total n00b around here.
Joellercoaster 6 #17 September 21, 2009 The idea of converting it into a skydiving torrents site, maybe hosting original seeds in case there are no distributed peers available for some videos, is the clear winner. It works for Linux distributions, it can be made to work for li'l ol' skydiving videos!-- "I'll tell you how all skydivers are judged, . Both the flash frontend site (http:skytu.be) and the torrent section are live and running, so I guess my n00b status is quickly disappearing over here! haha If you guys want to start uploading videos on the torrent tracker and start seeding out, that'd be great. I've got two seeding right now just to test the functionality and everything seems to be working great. http://skytu.be/torrents/details.php?id=2 http://skytu.be/torrents/details.php?id=

pilotdave 0 #23 September 22, 2009 In case anyone was curious, here's what SkydivingMovies.com looks like right now. It runs! Loud as hell. I think I could use the fan in it to cool my apartment. It runs a unix operating system with no graphical interface, so I needed a lesson in how to log into it. Actually someone talked me through hacking into it since the supplied password didn't seem to work. And it isn't quite on the network yet. That will be tomorrow's project. Course I won't be sharing the link or my cable company would shut me off in about 10 minutes. I've had a few offers and ideas as for what to do with the site. It looks like the future is bright for SkydivingMovies.com. Unfortunately nobody has offered me $1 million for it yet, but maybe these enticing pics will change someone's mind.
