jimmurt 0 #1 May 18, 2010 Hi, I want to do an AFF course and follow it up by getting my A licence. I live in Carlsbad. Does anyone have any thoughts on the best dropzone to visit? If you liked or disliked a particular DZ, can you follow it up with reasons, e.g. price, atmosphere etc. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Jim
GLIDEANGLE 1 #2 May 18, 2010 There are several good DZ choices in Southern California. Suggest you visit and see which one "feels" most comfortable. This will help you identify nearby DZs: http://www.uspa.org/FindaDZ.aspxThe choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
lost_n_confuzd 0 #3 May 19, 2010 From Carlsbad Skydive San Diego would be your best bet. I used to live in Oceanside and did AFF at SDSD. Its a great DZ with great staff and people to chill with. Last time I was there they had two Otters...
lowapproach 0 #4 May 19, 2010 I live in Carlsbad too. You are lucky that there are three great DZs all approximately the same distance from there. SDSD, Elsinore, or Perris. You can't go wrong with any of them. My personal preferences would be SDSD or Elsinore, but just because I have jumped at them more than Perris. jimmurt 0 #5 June 1, 2010 Thanks Guys, I'll decide over the next week and then book. What's the AFF course like, is it difficult to pass?
humbled1 0 #6 June 2, 2010 The AFF course will be similar regardless which of the 3 you pick. (Elsinore, Perris, or San Diego) I have done most of my jumps, including AFF, at Elsinore. I have jumped at Perris but not at SD; (but only cuz I have less than a 1000 jumps and no AAD!) Regardless, how hard AFF is depends on you and how bad you want to get your A. Most people who take the First Jump Course, do not finish AFF, much less get their A. Some people have to work harder than others, and most people have to repeat a level or 2. Some just get it and fly right through. I had to repeat level 4 myself. The best advice I can give is to pay attention during class; and on the jump, RELAX! It made no sense to me at the time but it sure does now! I suggest Elsinore but mainly because not only did I get my A there, but so did my daughter! It is smaller than Perris but still busy. It is a very friendly dz with a laid-back vibe. Lots of free coaching once you get your A as well!! Good luck whichever DZ u pick, any of the 3 would be an excellent choice!!"Tell ya the truth, I don't think this is a brains kind of operation." Best scenery - Otay Best aircraft/facilities - Perris Most laid back - Elsinore Best school selection - Perris (two schools on premises!)
