vortexr1 0 #1 May 16, 2010 Both my rotator cuffs have really been hurting the last probably 50-60 jumps. I'm in shape ,do all kind of sports but always been fine. I realize the different affects skydiving has on your body. I was just curious if anyone else has had similar problems? And what you did to treat the soreness? AggieDave 6 #2 May 16, 2010 Yes, I've had those problems before. I'm also an avid weight lifter, which didn't help matters. When Advil couldn't keep up, I finally did what I should have done in the first place: went to my doctor. Ended up doing a Cortisone shot for my left shoulder. I haven't had a problem with it since! For me, I had inflamed my shoulder and it needed medical help to put it back on the right road to recovery. The point isn't that you'll need a shot or anything else, its that shoulders are complex and once you pass from hurt to injured they can be ruined for life; so go to your doctor!--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." mrubin 0 #3 May 17, 2010 I strained my rotator cuffs on a hard opening. After a couple weeks without any improvement in the pain I went to a doctor. They set me up with some physical therapy that helped a lot."I fly because it releases my mind from the tyranny of petty things." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery
quade 4 #4 May 17, 2010 QuoteI was just curious if anyone else has had similar problems? It's one of the most common long term injuries in the sport. Rotator cuff injuries seem to just sort of happen over the course of a skydiving "career" due to exits and docs. Tiny injuries seem to add up over time and I just don't think the shoulder is designed to do what we ask it to do sometimes during skydives.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
kmills0705 0 #5 May 17, 2010 You'll find lots of us with rotator cuff problems. I had lots of trouble over the last year with my right shoulder. Late last year I got to the point where it hurt (really bad) to track and to pull... I went and got an MRI and have a full tear. I was given several options with one being surgery. I opted for physical therapy and a cortisone injection. That was amazing! I had no pain for about 4 months.... now it is just starting to creep back.
