iamtiffa 0 #1 May 11, 2010 Hi everyone...I have made up my mind that I am going to go skydiving this summer. I have pondered the idea for a few years. But never had anyone who would jump with me and blah blah blah, but now I do. I have a lot of medical issues that require me to have a PowerPort Implantable Port in place. I am looking for advice on whether the shoot harness will crush it or not...and also if there is something out there that I could use for padding between the two???? If anyone has some insight for me that would be AWESOME!!!! Thanks! Tiffany
nickfrey 0 #2 May 12, 2010 Where is your implant located?
iamtiffa 0 #3 May 12, 2010 It is located on the left side of my chest about 3 inches below the collar bone. The catheter tubing is tunneled under the collar bone into the Subclavian Artery.
rnicks 0 #4 May 12, 2010 It should probably be fine, but ask the instructors there. I'm assuming you have the port for chemo? As I'm sure you would, make sure your counts are good before going. Good luck and have fun!
DigitalDave 0 #5 May 12, 2010 I would be more concerned with changing the position of the catheter than crushing the port. There's a lot of upper body movement in skydiving. I think I'd consult the doc who put it in before jumping. Not that it matters, but are you certain it's in your Subclavian Artery and not the Subclavian Vein? smoothflyin 0 #6 May 13, 2010 Double check with your doctor...They may not approve of the skydiving, but they are the only ones who will be able to tell you the effect that it will have on your medical device. I dont think you can reasonably depend on a tandem master to make that call.
