Jacked 0 #1 April 12, 2010 RW suits and material selection, I need to know what the material is on a typically "Fast suit" I am new to the sport and started with some age on me, I don't bend well sometimes but to make maters worse I bought a tonisuit that has a very thick material that does not help me much when I'm wanting a faster fall rate. (I was told the suit was slow when I bought it) I'm looking to buy another suit, used through the classifieds here but need to know what to ask when inquiring about the material. Does that make any sense? The end result is directly connected to the effort applied
AggieDave 6 #2 April 12, 2010 Besides seeking the advice of your local RW coaches or experienced RW jumpers at your DZ (since they know you and know how you fly), could I recommend contacting a suit manufacture of your choice. They have been doing this for some time and can help you with design choices and materials. Purchasing a shiny new suit that was custom built for you is very nice as well. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." But as the previous poster wrote, your coach will know what works best for how you fly. I am still waiting for my RW suit to arrive, but the suit that was ordered for me [I am very floaty] is made mostly out of spandex, which is the slickest material you could get to make you fall faster. Basically the lighter and tighter fitting the material the more helpful in making you fall fast.
mswallin13 0 #4 April 12, 2010 The short answer to your question is that ZP is likely the fastest material you can have the front of the suit made out of. Lots of spandex on the back and arms will keep the ZP front tight, reducing flapping and therefore drag.Matthew Wallin C-37899
CMiller 1 #5 April 12, 2010 Yeah, spandex in the arms, nylon on the front. Also buy a fitted suit. So much depends on a good fit.
Andrewwhyte 1 #6 April 12, 2010 Fastest to slowest: 1. nylon 2. spandex 3. poli-cotton 4. cotton The spandex keeps the nylon tight.
