jigneshsoni 0 #1 June 22, 2005 Can somebody please answer the following questions: 1) How far is the plane from the dropzone before people start jumping out. I know it depends upon the wind. But still some ideas with examples would be great. 2) What is the maxiumum distance one can do while in freefall? 3) Once the parachute opens, how close or how far you have to be to get to your dropzone. I know it depends upon the speed of the wind. but some ideas with examples will help me understand it. 4) What is the steps of actualy landing. I mean when do you make turns, when do you brake. What are different positions of the legs/body while landing. 5) What are the things you have to keep in mind for a very safe and smooth landing? 6) What makes hard landing? What are the reasons people get inhured while landing? How bad could it get? Thanks Jignesh

Orange1 0 #7 June 22, 2005 Yeah. Just go to incidents and look how many fatalities are landing incidents, especially due to low turns I only discovered dz.com after my first few jumps and suddenly understood exactly why our instructor had hammered "no low turns" into us. Jig, it seems to me that at least 4 and 5 should have been covered in your FJC. Do think you need to chat to your instructors again. You can also ask them about the spot and techniques to get back from a long spot (as well as the importance of rather safely landing out than succumbing to get-home-itis).Skydiving: wasting fossil fuels just for fun. Icon134 0 #8 June 22, 2005 Like all of these guys said you should talk to your instructor... but... you might also enjoy reading one of the physics experts here on DZ.coms pages... Kallend has a couple of powerpoint presentations on his webpage. Enjoy... There is some rather interesting analysis regarding exit order and the Physics of Skydiving... TALONSKY 0 #9 June 22, 2005 Quote6) What makes hard landing? What are the reasons people get inhured while landing? How bad could it get? Really need that one answering? Landing injuries occur from a variety of issues. Some happen from no flare, to flaring to early to diving the canopy at the ground to build up speed and impacting the ground before pulling out of the dive. The injuries can vary from a bruise, a sprain to a broken leg/ pelvis and up to paralysis or death. Kirk
