decompresion 2 #1 April 2, 2010 Date: Ancient Greek times Gear: Wax, feathers and wood Manufacturer: Daedalus Wing loading: unknown No AAD reported No helmet reported Number of flights:1 Description: While trying to flee the island of Crete after being imprisoned with his father. Icarus ground launched his prototype wingsuit and began a flight over water. At some point, Icarus exceeded the manufacturer's recommended operating altitude and flew high enough to create a melting effect on the binding material on his wings. He then proceeded to a lower altitude but the humidity from the water underneath caused his feathers to become an ineffective air foil. Icarus plunged into the water without activating a reserve. It is not reported if he attempted to PLF but from later accounts he drowned in the water when the wood in his wingsuit did not keep him afloat. The manufacturer has been cleared of all wrongdoing due to the user exceeding the flight envelope of the equipment. Blue skies Icarus.
