Weather sucks

Recommended Posts

I signed up for learning to sky dive at sky's the limit in PA with the AFP program which would include 3 tandems and 8 solos with grouns schoo. I want to get this course finished as soon as possible so that I can start enjoying solo jumps without supervision.

I hated it last weekend that both days there were clouds. On Saturday my tandem instrcutor and I were in the plane and went up to 1300 feet just to realise that jump cannot be made. That was so frustrating. But I am not sure of my strange feeling weather I was happt that I don't have to jump or I was upset that I didn't get to jump. Such a strange feeling. Is that just me?

How do you people deal with the frustrations caused due to not being able to jump? I mean you plan out your weekend just for doing skydiving and not being able to do is so frustrating. The 5 days of work is not good enough as it is and you are just waitiing for the weekend to fulfil your passion for the new sport and you just find out that you can't jump after doing 1:30 hour of drive one day.

How do you guys deal with all this.

Thanks

We get used to it. A long time ago I stopped getting frustrated about it. I figure that I'll just do it another day. I do understand that there is more urgency for the beginning jumper, there just isn't anything you can do about the weather, short of moving to where it is different. I realize that it is difficult to force yourself to be not irritated. Maybe find some jumping related activities to fill the time. Packing practice, rigger training, sewing, dirt diving...

Bottom line - it sucks and everyone that got weathered out for AFF-1 knows exactly how you feel. Days of distraction at work followed by hours at the DZ being excited, nervous and trying to suck up the courage to go out the door only to then be denied the chance. First you're relieved, then more angry as your body tries to settle back down.

After the initial training is over, you're a bit less anxious, don't have the urgency to keep as current as possible, and the weather is just a drag. A few brushes with marginal weather in the sky and you become happier to avoid it too.

Welcome to Skys The Limit. You picked a great place to learn to skydive. This past weekend was very frustrating with only a few loads making it to 5,000 feet. If it's any consolation, I know how you feel. I took a whole week off from work to complete my AFF training and it was too windy to jump the entire time. Don't worry. The weather will get better eventually. In the meantime, take advantage of the down time to pick your instructors' brains and get to know your fellow skydivers. It will be time well spent. Hope to see you this weekend at the 70's Boogie.
