maxmadmax 8 #1 June 16, 2005 Did a three way...nothing fancy just a fun dive. Break off normal. I opened at 3 grand. Looked around and spotted the other canopies. One canopy appeared to be bow tied. I noticed a black line (bridle) going down to the skydiver's shoulder. The canopy is swinging like a pendulem. Just back and forth nothing radical. Skydiver chops the main...reserve does it's job....we land....etc. I find the main in the adjacent field. The left brake handle and the hackey are tied together as in a knot. So I wasn't seeing things....anyone every hear of such a bizzare mal? Thanks in advance.... Don't go away mad....just go away!
freeasabird 0 #2 June 16, 2005 Possibly had a riser flap open and loose steering line flappin in the wind at the time of throw out? Just a thought.-----
Frenchy68 0 #3 June 16, 2005 I thought about that. But then, how would the PC/briddle get enough force and "stretch" to allow the D-bag & main to get to line stretch, allowing the main to deploy? It seems the briddle was at shoulder level after deployment. Did the briddle tear apart from the canopy? airdvr 210 #4 June 16, 2005 Had to be something along the lines of a flapping steering line on the left side. Lucky it wasn't any uglier than that. I don't see any problem with imagining deployment in that scenario...bet it was squirrelly . The PC has enough force to drag through the steering line. And once the pin is popped the whole mess is gonna deploy. Certainly is an odd mal . I'd be checking those riser covers and how the excess steering line is stowed. Especially at the top left corner of the tray where the bottom of the riser hits the corner of the D bag. Please don't dent the planet. br0k3n 0 #5 June 17, 2005 As to the brake and the bridle, maybe they became tangled after the canopy had been chopped?? im sure most poeple had seen the mess a main gets into after a chop...----------------------------------------------------------- --+ There are 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't.. --+
