airtwardo 7 #52 January 6, 2010 Quote too bad I said LAZY not INCOMPETENT. ~ Fairly interchangeable terms when it comes to dealing with 'technology/hardware' basically designed to be idiot proof. I mean ya gotta be some special kinda 'lazy' not to just pick a lot of this stuff up by ACCIDENT! ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~

airtwardo 7 #54 January 6, 2010 Quote as you wish. However a lifetime of dealing with people and idiot proof things has taught me to err on the side of caution. Humans get complacent, regardless of education and intelligence. ~ ~ 3/4's of a lifetime jumping out of airplanes has taught ME that complacency kills and there isn't ANY room for it regarding the understanding, use, maintenance & care of any & all lifesaving equipment either you or your fellow jumpers may be using. I'm not trying to argue with ya, and won't drift the thread any more after this~~but it's kinda my duty as an ole grumpy guy to 'say out loud' that as a Skydiver active in the sport on any level other than n00b student...in the interest of both self preservation and the overall advancement of the sport, people MUST put in the 'work' & take the time / make the effort to fully understand the intricacies of their equipment. It is imperative to know how & why everything works, how & why it sometimes DOESN'T work, and what to do in EVERY possible eventuality of failure. It is inexcusable that 'licensed' Skydivers forget to use legstraps, don't know how to pin check every common container used today, forget to cock a pilot-chute, don't regularly inspect the fabric & hardware that allows 'em to stay vertical, mobile & takin' nourishment. Complacency, laziness, disinterest...whatever you want to label it, is nothing more than a bullshit excuse people in our group tend to use because they either don't actually understand or are in denial of the fact we've involved ourselves in something that can get you very dead real quick, sometimes even when everything goes RIGHT. Sticking batteries in an ear buzzer & a reserve pack-tray does not negate the basic responsibility to self of being 100% ready, willing and able to kick Murphy square in the balls just for lurking. . ! 'Back-Up System' seems to be a lot of jumpers primary reliance these days ~ it doesn't mean trick technology for getting 'back up' in the air if you're too preoccupied to save your own life, and it's definitely not an answer to complacency! I use the term 'inexcusable' because I've had the great misfortune of watching way too many friends dent up the planet because they burned through the hard deck with with some kind of problem that an excuse couldn't address. Again to you likestojump, I'm not cappin' on you personally, and apologize if ya take it that way. . . .I do understand the point you were presenting, however I urge you to maybe re-examine the personal roll & responsibility we all have in regard to the effort & attention necessary to stay alive & unbroken. ...I'm betting you DO make the effort, but maybe enlighten those you see & know, who don't! Hey, 25 years from now YOU can be the grumpy ole guy still spreading the 'word' on how easy it is to be active in skydiving most of yer life, and not even have a limp. Trust me it's important to keep learning, and really SO easy 'even a caveman' like me can do it... I'm certainly NO rocket surgeon, & obviously didn't stay at Motel 6...just a dumb, lazy old guy that wants to live forever so far so good! just my .02 ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
likestojump 3 #55 January 6, 2010 I agree with everything you said. And I always try my best to educate. It's just that some people puzzle me with their bullshit excuses (as you say - and I 100% agree). you summarized my feelings to the t.

If so I have learned something today. Sparky I've seen only one, and while the suit wasn't "worn through," the wear marks were pretty evident. He's more or less a newer wingsuiter, so probably doesn't have more than 50 jumps on it. I'd meant to ask about it, but he was gone before we got to have much discussion. RIGGER160 0 #62 January 8, 2010 .............................................................................................. The long term solution is probably those fancy, low profile COBRA Snaps sold by Para-Gear. I have one of the COBRA snaps on a rigger belt I made and i love it for that but have accidently popped it a few times. Dont know how but I did. I wouldnt want to worry about doing that in the air

heavydude 0 #71 January 20, 2010 I feel better after reading this that other people use B-12s, I thought I was the only person out there with a rig, Javelin that still had them. yarpos 4 #74 January 21, 2010 dont understand.....how would that happen with the snap facing inward toward your body and engaged in a leg strap? Hard to see how a line could get in there. Always a snag hazard with any hardware I guess, but there doesnt seem to be much difference between b12s and the now standard adapters.regards, Steve the older I get...the better I was
