Several of the instructors at SKydive Chicago have been successfully using them for a while.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one. So i totally understand the whole thing with jumping with a camera and it distracting you and stuff. so im gonna stay away from that for a while. the GoPro takes stills and i have a chest mount and stuff so i mostly just wanted some cool shots of me under canopy to put on facebook or something...cause im a teenager and thats what i do... haha. so if i did like a solo and then just got a few stills under canopy would that still be bad? Thanks for the input oh dude DUde DUDE BRO DUDE. omg DUDE! ummmmm. i forgot.... Dudeist Skydiver #

Thanks for the input Its a VERY wide angle lense, even at 5mp, the pictures wont be very detailed. Its also kind of difficult to operate in photo mode, you have to turn it on, change it to photo mode and take the pictures, all without dropping the tiny mofo. There is no real easy way for a grown up to hold on to it, not even a hole for a lanyard to attach. I wouldnt do it... atleast not without a dummy cord tied to the waterproof housing, but that just introduces a risk of entanglement. There is also not much shot confirmation, it just shows a number of files on the screen, you take a pic, and if it worked, that number should go up."I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message
f1racer696 0 #7 August 18, 2009 ive had it for a little while and i think its pretty easy to use. if i connect it to the chest strap made for it i could jump with it on and not worry about it. its also pretty easy to program which setting you want it on when you turn it on. like video, pictures, and stuff. i know the pictures quality isnt the best, but i still just wanted to give it a try. i was just wondering if some of the experienced jumpers out there still think it would be a bad idea to jump with even if im not shooting video thanks though. brettski74 0 #8 August 18, 2009 Talk to the instructors and/or S&TA or equivalent at your dropzone. They're the ones you ultimately have to convince, not some random strangers on the other side of the internet. For one thing, I'm not looking at this chest strap that you're talking about so I can't see how you're planning to wear it, whether it may introduce any issues with your emergency procedures should you experience a malfunction. If it was me, I'm also thinking that even if you have no way to aim it, you could still be distracted by the thought of wanting to protect it during exit, in freefall and/or under canopy. At 34 jumps, you're still a novice and there's still a lot of things that aren't second nature, yet. You need your attention focused on those things, not whether you're going to damage your techie toy.

aresye 0 #10 August 18, 2009 I took a camera with me to grab some stills under canopy somewhere between jumps 40-50. The pictures were good, and I had a lanyard attached to the hard frame of the camera. Looking back on it now, I was distracted under canopy, which could potentially have resulted in a canopy collision, plus the lanyard risks a chance of entanglement, should you cut away. My recommendation: Wait until you are extremely comfortable under canopy. Do a Hop&Pop when nobody else is, so your airspace is clear, and pull high (at least 4000ft). Take it out, take multiple pictures, but don't look at the one's you take until you are back on the ground. I don't recommend doing it at all, but if you absolutely must, do it quickly, and restow the camera and/or lanyard as quickly as possible. I'd also recommend doing this on a relatively calm day. Not just winds on the ground, but aloft as well. Do it during one of your last jumps, that way you know if there's turbulent air and/or crazy winds aloft.Skydiving: You either learn from other's mistakes, or they'll learn from yours. humbled1 0 #11 August 18, 2009 A few guys at my DZ have them and seem to like them. As for what you should do; I suggest you hold off on the camera till you have the recommended experience. (200 jumps) I can sympathize with your situation. I am dying to bolt a still camera on my camera helmet but it is suggested you do 100 video only jumps before adding a still into the mix, and I only have about 50 video jumps at this point so I am waiting on the still camera."Tell ya the truth, I don't think this is a brains kind of operation." Gadget 0 #12 August 18, 2009 You mean like these photo's? The gopro camera can be used while skydiving in the photomode ( it takes a photo automaticly every 2 seconds). You have to just sift trough the pictures on the computer as you will have on a typical jump about 250 of them. As for the chest mount: if you have the origonal chestmount from Gopro it is completly save for skydiving and doesn't obstruct any handels. As for the jumpnumbers: please wait untill you have some more jumps and experience Pic0064 is taken with a chestmountIf people from Poland are called Poles, why aren't people from Holland called Holes???
