Jump Ticket prices going up at Perris

i have no idea quade why people are so loyal to perris...but of all the DZ that i have been too across the states, it seems that the loyalty here is the strongest. not sure why....

I'll tell you why I’m loyal, because Melanie drove an hour each way to visit me in the hospital after a minor skydiving accident. She also took the time to chug a starbucks frappucciuno, then hold the empty bottle in the exhaust stream of an otter so I could have the smell of jet fuel in my hospital room.

I'm loyal because Skydive Perris has extended the offer of unlimited free tandems and tunnel time to our fellow skydiving brother Keith Meller.

Families aren’t this nice to each other . . . that’s why I’m loyal!

You are so wise, Sparky. :) I almost just shared some good news online (pretty stupid of me) that I will keep to myself at this point because I personally do not want to be labeled as "spreading rumours". [:/] I'm sure by now we all know the LEGAL reasons for AAW's closure, and that is ALL that is really relevant.

Keith is a skydiver who broke his neck a little over a year ago on a night jump at perris. He's now an incomplete quad. But thankfully he’s done one tandem since his accident and is looking forward to tunnel time.

More like caring about your jumpers, there wouldn't be a lawsuit, that's why we sign wavers

My past experience with Perris was also sadly not very good. I only have gone as a student, and, at the time, I felt that they did care more about the financial part of it too much. I may be wrong. I was frightened away from there as it was very difficult to feel at home in a new DZ where no one was really friendly to me. [:/] I felt so insecure. Being shy and a female student did not help.

I was going to go to Perris today, but I am sick still (began antibiotics again last night). :( However, I have an urge to go next Sunday and conquer my fear of Perris. After meeting Frank and Dominic in the gear store and seeing the friendly face of a female instructor that I had met there before, I think that I may be able to feel less intimidated. I may jump there every so often if it goes well. :)
I know what Scott means. AA West was different. Everyone was accepted into the group, and we would all go out for dinner/drinks together as a group every weekend night. We all cared about each other and had fun. I have found that environment at Elsinore. It is now my home DZ for that reason...

Big DZ / Little DZ is a debate that will last longer than RSLs and AADs.

I say, your skydiving experience is what YOU make of it. YOU have to be responsible for your own fun. And maybe it means that YOU will have to go up to someone, introduce yourself, and ask what's going on in the way of jumps YOU want to do. This technique has worked for me at many, many DZs that I've visited from the Atlantic side to the Pacific side.

I know, this is completely off topic from Perris raising their jump prices but come on people. Skydiving attracts A type personalities. You've accepted the challenge of jumping from an airplane but now you are scared to walk up to a stranger and talk to them? That seems a just bit weird to me.

Just my unsolicited $.02

I find it hard to talk to people too. For some reason I'm scared of saying the wrong thing when I don't know people (I'm fairly geeky, so this isn't that hard to imagine), and so resort to asking in the office if there's anyone to jump with. This is at the DZs in Houston, where I live.

But I've been jumping a long time.

You've accepted the challenge of jumping from an airplane but now you are scared to walk up to a stranger and talk to them?

Jesus Christ! First, do not YELL at me. Second, I said that my experience at Perris is just that MY experience. Third, who says that I didn't walk up to people at Perris? Walking up to people/talking and having them be friendly back are two seperate things. Furthermore, I always have fun IN THE SKY because I am there for me and my enjoyment IN THE SKY. I have been to many dropzones (AAW, San Diego, Taft, Elsinore, etc.) by myself, as usual, since Perris and had a fabulous time jumping solos or jumping with others. B|

Also, I was still a student at the time that I went to Perris. I was at the mercy of the school and the wind. It makes people anxious to have to be ready to jump out of a plane at a huge, new DZ at a minute's notice. I wasn't trying to think about making friends as I was waiting to be called to jump.

Like Wendy, I am also naturally very shy, but it is not always obvious. I struggle with it every day. I was THE smart, nerdy grade-school girl, but then I went through puberty at 14. That is when I began to get a lot of attention and did not know how to deal with it. Therefore, I am still shy many times, although I have improved at my social skills tremendously over the years. (I'm 32, now.)

Anyway, what does being shy have to do with jumping out of a plane? There is no correlation. You can be socially shy/scared and still extremely courageous in other areas of your life. I do not think that every person has to be classified a certain way to be called a skydiver.

That seems a just bit weird to me.

I never said that I wasn't weird. :P

I'm not yelling at you. I'm emphasising things to you. You are saying that Perris is not as friendly as other DZs. Well, I've visited Perris myself and it was as friendly as any other DZ I've been to. My point is that your experience is what you make it. I wouldn't wait for anyone to come around chasing you down to make sure you are having a good time. If you're shy, fine. But I don't think it's fair to blame the DZ for your interaction then. That's all I'm saying.

Well, I've visited Perris myself and it was as friendly as any other DZ I've been to.

Good for you. That is your opinion. We have had differing experiences.
You have also never read my first post back on May 2nd in this same forum. It explains somewhat why else my experience there was just not good. Like I said, I was stating that this was only MY experience at Perris.

My point is that your experience is what you make it. I wouldn't wait for anyone to come around chasing you down to make sure you are having a good time.

Are you kidding me? You are prejudging me based on absolutely nothing. I never said that I would want for ANYONE (emphasizing) to do anything of the sort. Being shy, I feel uncomfortable if too much attention is being called to me. You must not understand that by "being friendly", I mean a smile or "Good luck" back at my smile/"Have fun" on the plane or a "Hello" back on the ground. Geez. By friendly, I mean basic courtesies.

I went to Perris about 4 or 5 times, and I just felt that out of all the other DZs that I had visited that it was the least friendly at the time. I seriously think that I am not alone. Just as there are many loyal Perris people, there are many that have had bad experiences. It differs for everyone. I am not bashing Perris. I still feel that it is a wonderful DZ, which is why I want to go jump there now every now and then.

Btw, shyness and social phobias are real. They can affect us non-whuffos, too. We are just skydivers jumping out of a plane. We are not perfect and invincible. ;)

Hey, Bill has done over a hundred in a day at Lodi as well...... He charges less... if you want to pay less to jump you could drive there... ;) I jump both Perris and Elsinore... both are great places with wonderful people. Hey, my 81 year old mom likes to hang out at Elsinore, Perris and Lodi... B|

Jason,

I was there the day that Melanie filled that little glass bottle with Otter fumes for you. She was laughing and smiling and was hoping you'd like the idea as much as she did creating it. We were all cheering her and loving the idea. She is an incredible DZO, with lots of energy and giving to her skydiving family there.

As for Keith's gift....! Wow, I didn't know about this give-back she's offered. Keith has to be touched. He's done 2 tandems to date. One, just 8 months to the day from the day of his accident (I filmed the tandem that day), the other just a month or two ago when he showed up at the DZ just to hang out....and Melanie offered him a free tandem ride.

Why are we loyal to Perris? Because of the family there. And the family just keeps on growing... :)

:)
Diverdriver ~ I am seriously in a bad mood and on antibiotics right now, so I APOLOGIZE for going on and on... :S I will think about what you said for my next trip there. I do think that things will be different this time as I am no longer going in throught their school. I always try to stay positive about new situations/settings. I know that this is no different. I look forward to having a BLAST at Perris! B|

Scottjaco~ sorry for hijacking your thread... :$ It's weird that we are remeeting online.

Rosa,

I extend to you an offer of visiting Skydive Chicago if you ever come out this way. It's a big DZ too and I do some organizing for low time to intermediate skydivers. I'd like to jump with you. And if I get out to the west coast I'll be sure to look you up and jump with you.

I shouldn't have to pay their credit
card fees!

Just because you didn't see it as a line item before doesn't mean you weren't paying for it. Think of it as a cash discount instead of a credit card fee.

I like the idea, actually. For a business accepting credit payments can be fiendishly expensive due to hidden fees etc. IMO jumpers paying in cash shouldn't have to subsidize those paying with credit.

Rosa,
First of all, are you calling me old? Har, Har, well I am. If you are going to Perris next Sunday, let me know when and I will meet you there and we will make beautiful skydive together!
