dropoutdave 0 #3 April 29, 2005 Just remember that when it comes to the real thing the chances are the handles will be higher up than they are when you practice it on the ground. ------------------------------------------------------ May Contain Nut traces...... rushmc 23 #4 April 29, 2005 I have done it and I encourage those that bring their rigs to me to do it as well."America will never be destroyed from the outside, if we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." It actualy made me a bit nervous. But I know that when I do have a real cut away; 1) That long hand swoop will the first thing on my mind and; 2) That I need to remember that the handles will be higher than normal. I think that is my biggest fear it not getting that cable completley out, I know someone that happened to, she had a entaglement but survived to tell the story!----------------- I love and Miss you so much Honey! DZJ 0 #6 April 29, 2005 My first reserve pull was on the ground. One of my home DZ's staff was going for his rigger's rating and as he was only going to unpack a reserve he'd just finished with, I asked if he'd mind if I pulled the ripcord on it - was quite cool to see the reserve PC launch itself off my back. bch7773 0 #7 April 29, 2005 ah the benefits of being in charge of the student rigs at my DZ. I get to pull a reserve on the ground about every week. make sure when you practice it on the ground to try shifting the rig around funny, or not doing up the chest strap, to simulate rig distortion during a malfunction. that way you aren't used to your handles always being in the proper spot. rasmack 0 #11 April 30, 2005 Apologies. I should have told you beforehand, and yes the battery has been changed, the rig was given a clean bill of health by my local master rigger, and the reserve has been repacked. I am hoping to get up there tomorrow... HF #682, Team Dirty Sanchez #227 “I simply hate, detest, loathe, despise, and abhor redundancy.” - Not quite Oscar Wilde... Dropsloan 0 #13 May 2, 2005 On my 32nd jump I had no choice but to try out my reserve due to a main malfunction. I had no problems with the cutaway and the reserve popped really fast. However, I was quite unstable when I pulled. I used both hands to cutaway and both to pull the ripcord on the reserve. I threw both handle away without a thought - my life is worth more than $85. There was no RSL on my rig at the time. I now have a new rig with RSL, but I'm not sure that I like it. I always run EP's through my head before every jump and it really paid off. Don't think it can't happen to you...
