kelpdiver 2 #4 June 18, 2009 Quote i know what freeflying is, but what is the difference in that and freestyle? freestyle means actually having style while you fall. Freeflying is tumbling randomly.
skybytch 273 #5 June 18, 2009 Surprise, surprise. Three replies that all belong in Bonfire, not in a topical forum. Here's a serious answer for the OP. Freestyle is where freeflying came from. Basically dancing/gymnastics in freefall. The best freestylists are amazing; it's a lot harder than it looks and a lot harder than what is now consider to be freeflying. Like skysurfing, freestyle is (was?) mostly a solo discipline, at most a two way (freestylist and camera flyer). And it's hard. Together, those reasons may be a big part of why you've never heard of it...
GLIDEANGLE 1 #6 June 18, 2009 The video here will illustrate the difference. At ~4:50 into the video is an example of freestyle. However, you need to watch the rest of the video to see how it compares to freeflying. http://www.uspa.org/AboutSkydiving/PressCenter/tabid/309/Default.aspx What freestyle is to ballet, freeflying is to square dancing. The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
