OlympiaStoica 0 #2 June 17, 2009 Your AFF instructors are qualified to choose a canopy size for you. You can't jump your own rig until you receive your A-license ... you don't need to worry about this just yet :) O

Wait for a few more jumps before you start worrying about gear. Once you're ready to purchase your own rig, then please talk to your local instructors to help you through the process. You'll still be looking for something that will put you in the 0.75:1 to 1:1 wingloading range (that is suspended total weight, including all of your gear weight, divided by the square footage of your canopy).--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." However, I would think the AFF instructors--and not any other skydivers on here or at the DZ--should be the sole source of advice regarding buying gear, especially regarding canopy size, for anyone who does purchase gear very early in their skydiving career."It's hard to have fun at 4-way unless your whole team gets down to the ground safely to do it again!"--Northern California Skydiving League re USPA Safety Day, March 8, 2014
JustChuteMeNow 0 #6 June 17, 2009 QuoteYou can't jump your own rig until you receive your A-license ... There is no BSR that states that a student can not jump their own rig. In the SIMS it does say that a student must jump a rig with an AAD and an RSL. The RSL requirement can be waived by an instructor but not the AAD requirement. Of course DZs can set their own standards on top of the USPA minimum recommendations. Hopefully most DZs would stop a student from jumping guestionable gear.Think of how stupid the average person is and realize that statistically half of them are stupider than that. JohnMitchell 16 #9 June 17, 2009 Not at ours. It just has to have an AAD and be suitable for the person.
Tuna-Salad 0 #10 June 17, 2009 Ask for SET 400... That is great student gear, and zippy under canopy too Millions of my potential children died on your daughters' face last night.
