AlexCrowley 0 #1 June 14, 2009 For personal reasons I stopped jumping about 3 years ago, I got 50 or so jumps under my belt and then stopped. I'm now pretty sure that I'll be returning to the sky in the near future. What should I expect? Will I need to start from scratch? IT seems like my wife tossed my log book out so I won't have documentation beyond my A license and people remembering me at the DZ (same staff). Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks. (and a cursory search didnt give a specific thread, so any links to previous conversations that are related would be just as good as making everyone retreading a common topic). Thanks. J TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
skyjumpenfool 2 #2 June 14, 2009 I took time off when my kids were young. I would go out to the DZ from time to time just to say hello to friends. When I got back into the sport, it was very helpful to have a couple friends willing to bring me along. Talk to your local DZO. Bring an old friend along if you do not know the DZO. As for the jump log, that's a bummer. But, it doesn't mean you can't jump. When you go to get your next license, you'll have to find another way to prove proficiency. You may even need to redo some jumps. At any rate, take advantage of any opportunity to retrain. Don't look at it as an unnecessary hoop to jump through... think of it as an opportunity to learn more about this sport. And remember above all else, HAVE FUN! mnealtx 0 #3 June 14, 2009 Hey, Alex...welcome back. Per BSRs, you'd have to do a recurrency training and jump. It's possible that the dzo might want to give you a mini-fjc for safety's sake....*IF* you can find your logbook (or if the DZO can look you up on the USPA website), that is.Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. Andy9o8 2 #4 June 14, 2009 Re: logbook, see if your old DZ still has manifest records of those jumps. If so, that might help you re-create a paper trail.
JohnMitchell 16 #5 June 14, 2009 Hey, just claim you have a couple of hundred jumps. I know a few that don't log that know they make a million jumps a year.Seriously to the OP, our DZ has computer manifest records going back over 10 years. Yours may too. I don't know how current you feel, but if you've thought a lot about jumping, and kept your EP's fresh in your head, it shouldn't be too hard to come back. Enjoy. Gary73 10 #6 June 15, 2009 Quote It seems like my ex-wife tossed my log book out ... Thanks. J Fixed it for you!Seriously, that'll depend on DZ policy; probably a refresher course. That could take one to three hours, depending on how much you remember. Then a jump or two with an Instructor or Coach, again depending on how well you do. You can help things along by reviewing procedures and getting your membership up to date. A USPA GM dropzone will be able to verify membership and license online, which will make them more likely to believe you regarding your experience level. Good luck and welcome back! JustinR 0 #8 June 17, 2009 Hi Wendy After much grumbling my wife went into the attic and found it, including the rest of the paperwork. Now to find a job and I can start jumping again! Thanks to everyone for their suggestions and help. (ps, this is my real name, new account)
