The biker guy doesn’t get it…….

>So... is there a generally agreed upon fall rate that most people shoot for?

Not really. Many 4-way teams aim for around 120 because that's pretty fast and airspeed=control, and you can hit that without too much effort (i.e. no heroic amounts of weight.) But Fury is arguably one of the best teams in the US and their fall rate is considerably slower.

On one world record (2002) we saw speeds of 108 or so; everyone was wearing sweatshirts, sleeves, webbed gloves etc. At the last one speeds were closer to 125. I had a slick suit and weights, and was docking near the 100-way base.

So... is there a generally agreed upon fall rate that most people shoot for? And how do we measure it?

Not only is there not an agreed on fall rate, but people don't even agree on how to measure it. Ask most people with a recording device and they can't even tell you what setting it is on.

Here is some background from a scientific viewpoint:

But it is not going to be anything like what you hear at the DZ.

That definitely some interesting reading there... it sounds like a Pro Track or similar device would record mostly the same data?

Too bad. I'd rather have bonfire conversations over a laptop with graphs and data, then catch up on the latest DZ drama and speculation. :)

Yes, but a person needs to examine graphs of the data to really know what is going on. Most of them just read off the "magic number" and think that is a good representation of their fall rate. Maybe, maybe not.

The suit can slow you down!?
By how many mph?

Yes, but a main function of jumpsuits is also to put the right amount of drag on the right parts of your body, which is a great aid in controllability and maneuvering power.

Different types of suit achieve this differently for different types of skydiving.
Do you want to have an ideagasm?

if you belly fly with me the agreed upon fall rate is " catch this bitch" :P around 132 so sayeth the neptune. that's in my rw suit. so i just usually jump slick punch the arch. at around 155 and jump with the sit and h/d guys.

i have on occasion been accused of pulling low . My response. Naw I wasn't low I'm just such a big guy I look closer than I really am .

What does a jump suit do?
I mean other than help one look extra fine for the ladies?
