samlukeanthony 0 #1 March 24, 2009 Hi there. I am a television producer in the UK making a show for Discovery about the world's ultimate drop zones. I am putting together an initial list and would welcome any feedback from forum members. So why not email me at sam@multichromemedia.com and tell me what you feel are the most incredible DZs you have ever dived- or dream of diving. Or just leave a post on the forum if you prefer. I am particularly interested in Drop Zones with spectacular and interesting views. Thanks! Sam Anthony Executive Producer Multichrome Media

beowulf 1 #3 March 24, 2009 Skydive Chicago should be added to the list as a resort skydiving center. It is by far the nicest dropzone I have ever seen. They offer more then just skydiving. Horse back riding, canoeing, camping ....
pirana 0 #4 March 24, 2009 I'll second Z-Hills for the vibe." . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley

councilman24 37 #11 March 24, 2009 Skydive Tirol http://www.skydive-tirol.com/sprungplatz/sprungplatz.html Visiting the Inn Valley in Austria from the U.S.A. for work the second time I took my rig with me. Less than a mile from the plant I was visiting for work was Skydive Tirol. I made two jumps while I was there. Climbing to altitude with the Austrian alps on either side over a valley 2 km wide was an impressive start. We never seemed to be more than 500' AGL for the first 5000 or 6000 ft. Being somewhat silly I asked about jump run. I was told jump run was always up the valley. Duh, with peaks several thousand feet high on both sides no wonder. As we climbed higher more and more of the Alps came into view beyond the closet peaks. And, since I'm used to jumping in the midwest in the U.S.A I'm used to being able to see a long ways. Just not snow covered mountains as far as I can see. All though I'm an experienced jumper and the DZ was much larger than many I've seen, the valley looked awfully small. Especially with a river, an autobahn, major power transmission lines another highway, a rail line and a village all in the flat part of the valley. But the view in freefall was even better. As you fell lower and lower the perspective on the mountains changes and the distant peaks disappear behind the closer ones. The sides of the valley seem to wrap up around you, and they do! I got to 5000' and was getting the feeling of being low due to the mountains in my peripheral vision. Usually it's corn stalks and I'm really low. Checked the altitude and spot and realized I had a ways to go yet. Opening down IN the valley and landing were an end to the best view I've ever had skydiving.I'm old for my age. wmw999 2,452 #12 March 24, 2009 Other very scenic places would include Skydive Monterey Bay in California, and the dropzone on Hawaii. billvon 2,997 #13 March 24, 2009 >I am particularly interested in Drop Zones with spectacular and interesting views. Most spectacular drop zone I've ever jumped at was a temporary one, over the Knik glacier in Alaska. Mountains all around you, a terminal lake beneath you, and a glacier snaking back up into the mountains.

Sam Anthony Executive Producer Multichrome Media Hey, Sam - First off, I'd recommend you hire someone as a consultant to verify some points of authenticity for the show. It's just a pet peeve, as we've all seen way too many broadcast spots that just plain get things wrong. Case in point - I've never heard a skydiver call it 'diving' - most of us call it 'jumping'. (Similar to someone in a bar who's talking up the girls with a story about how 'My chute didn't open' - you can tell they're full of sh*t, because skydivers don't call them 'chutes. We refer to them as 'canopies'). It's the little things that make a show authentic. That being said, here's my recs: BEST VIEWS Skydive Hawaii/Pacific Skydiving Center - Oahu, Hawaii, USA Skydive Sebastian - Florida, USA and (I hear) Skydive Everest - Nepal ULTIMATE PLACE TO SWOOP Mile-Hi Skydiving - Longmont, Colorado, USA OVERALL ULTIMATE DZ (in terms of amenities, aircraft) Skydive Arizona - Eloy, Arizona, USA Skydive Perris Valley - Perris, California, USA ULTIMATE 'GOOD VIBES'/FRIENDLIEST DZ Skydive Elsinore - Lake Elsinore, California, USA Good luck!Signatures are the new black. Airgump 1 #21 March 25, 2009 The Blue Sky Ranch in Gardiner, NY stands right up there side by side with Z-Hills for overall vibe. Z-Hills is awesome for night jumps and you can see the shuttle launch in the distance when NASA has either night or day shots. Hands down for the beauty of nature, you have to jump the Ranch when the leaves change. The ride to altitude is really awesome and the land below looks like it's on fire. The lakes you pass over on the ride to altitude at Jumptown in Orange Mass is very beautiful too. I miss that DZ a lot these days.
LongWayToFall 0 #22 March 25, 2009 +1 Monterrey! They go to 18,000 and up there the sky is the same dark blue as the ocean! Going up to altitude takes you way out over the bay as well. I think you guys should be sure to include lots of drop zones in far away countries as well, like thai land or the philippine islands or something. Gotta get a mix of tropical ocean reef views, as well as mountains with snow etc. Parachute Center in Lodi gets points for turning lots of loads on the cheap! rhys 0 #23 March 25, 2009 Among the worls best scenery would have to be... Fox glacier on the west coast of the south island of New Zealand. a 12000' mountain peak only 10 miles from the ocean, you jump only a few kilometres from the ocean. with a veiw of the mountains (1000's of them) with masses of glacieres(hundreds of them too) and neves, 2 13kilometre glaciers running through temperate rain forest with braided rivers and lakes meandering off to the ocean only a few k's away. Or NZSkydive in Glenorchy, New Zealand where many scens from lord of the rings were filmed for obvious reasons... almost as nice a fox gliacier but not quite, because of the ocean and rainforest factor.
