kelpdiver 2 #26 March 14, 2009 QuoteDrive to Lodi for a week. 1000 for the AFF course, and 35-40 bucks per jump including gear rental. For 2000 bucks, you can pay for gas getting here and back, as well as bang out you A license and a handful of coach jumps. Having to miss two business days really erases the savings for many. OTOH, those who have weekdays off, certainly can save.
tbrown 26 #27 March 14, 2009 You'll need the A license if you want to travel around and visit different dropzones. Not having the A won't make visiting another dropzone impossible, but they'll treat you like an orphan child if you don't have your A. It's a badge of minimum competency, sort of like a driver's license. And you don't have to be friends with people to jump with them either. Give them the finger in midair if you need to. But you won't grow or develop as a skydiver if all you ever do is jump by yourself. You might become a good parachutist, but real skydiving takes two or more people. JohnMitchell 16 #28 March 14, 2009 i definitely agree that you need the license to travel to other DZ's. It will save you money in the long run because you won't have to hire a coach or instructor to check you out at each DZ. Also, our DZ charges novices twice as much as licensed jumpers. Get your license and make 2 jumps for the price of one.
