Jumping after a year

Recommended Posts

I have had to take a year off of skydiving for medical/financial reasons and am about to re-new my [extortianate] B.P.A membership. However, come the first of April I will not have jumped for over a year. I have 60 jumps and F.S 1 and while i was jumping never went uncurrent for more than a month. I have'nt spoken to anyone at my DZ about it yet but i was hoping for some opinions on whether i will be ok to go do a conservative solo straight away, or whether to do some coach jumps. I realise that the final decision is the chief instructors but i would really like some opinions. As far as my ability level i never worried my instructors or F.S coach, I completed AFF and W.A.R.P in the minimum amount of levels. I realise that this does'nt mean that much but i guess i am trying to say i am a 'stable' skydiver. Any opinions especially those from instructors would be helpfull.

Hey, I don't know really what the rules are where you are. But, here in the US, with not jumping for a year and only having 60 jumps, you'd need to get some re-currency training. Even "experienced" skydivers who miss a year or more should get some re-currency training. Check out section 5:2 of the SIM if ya want.

From the ops manual section 5

11. RESTRICTIONS FOLLOWING A LAY-OFF

Where a Student or Intermediate Parachutist has had a lay-off of two months or more, approval of the CCI must be obtained as to the type of descent to be made next.

I'd have thought at least 1 jump with an AFFI

I was unable to jump for 5 months immediately after qualification. My recurrency training was maybe a half hour of revision on mal drills, canopy control etc, with my original AFFI before an unsupervised solo from 13k.

I was happy about jumping and the jump went without incident.

I was off for 10 years. Took a refresher, made two jumps with an instructor then two solo's...then did a 4 way on my 5th.

It's not quite like riding a bike, but it will all come back to you.

Welcome back to the sport!

Man, I cant believe it's been just over a year and a half since I have jumped! I tried going last weekend but got clouded out, should be able to go this weekend. I have 37 jumps but STILL no A license. Passed each level of AFF on each try but I think I started having too much fun with some solos and still need 1 more RW jump for my A license. I definately need to do a recurreny jump.. maybe I'll actually try and get an A license this weekend or next. =) Back when I was jumping I was getting nervous about my landings, hopefully I can start jumping all the time again and feel more confident with that. Happy jumping everyone!
