So 2 years in the sport, 100 jumps and you're telling us your a senior rigger (according to your profile). :S

Yeah, I got my rating after being in the sport for 6 months. It just took a lot of extra work and study to fill in facts that some would have through experience. Not a workaholic. Not a workaholic. Had 2 saves so far as well.

PS I bought my beer for getting the rating but fortunately haven't been pied on my 100th.

I remember reading that back in WWII, they sometimes used units of female service personnel to pack parachutes. The last task they had to perform to graduate from their packing class was to jump a chute they had packed. Sure brought home to them the seriousness of their task.

I even found a video of this or similar event on skydivingmovies.com -britsh pathe I think ;)

I quit the beer rules because there are too many moochers(people that never buy) at the DZs today. I make sure I have beer and replace if i ever have to borrow.

I hear you there. I don't mind sharing, but there is a lot of "one-way sharing" with some parties.

So I pretty much ignore the beer rules these days, but almost always have at least a 6-pack in the trunk - on ice. If there is beer in the fridge from true students, then I drink that. (And I jump with and make them feel part of the crowd always).

If there is no true student beer, I get mine out, and make sure the seasoned vets who are bringing me along get some.

So I guess I have my own personal beer rules. I think I'll name them Pirana Law:

Jump with the new guys - drink their beer.
Jump with the veterans - buy them a beer.

Easy enough.

Back when the world was flat and skygods walked on water buying beer was not a way to punish a new jumper or just get free beer. It was a way to get everyone together at the end of the day and share stories and pass on knowledge. I learned more about skydiving and jump gear while I was sitting around a bonfire watching people drink my beer then I could have reading all the book ever published on the subject. The little tricks on how to stay alive, how gear worked and who was safe and who was scary. The folklore, the heart and soul of the sport was passed on to the next generation. We are losing that and when it is gone skydiving will be just another recreational activity that people do on the week end.[:/]

You *might* be right...but the coupla times I've had the opportunity to share a beer (or sushi) with ya, there's always been something to learn.
Thanks for the wisdom, O Orange One.;)
