What %?

Recommended Posts

So I am writing a "how to" essay for school. I figured as a good refresher for me (since I haven't jumped in several months) would be to write a how to essay on packing. Now, I need to show why people would be interested in this subject. I figured I could look for a percent of people that say they want to skydive. I have searched for that but can't come up with anything. Anyone have any ideas on where to look?
I may not agree with what you have to say but i'll defend to the death your right to say it.

This is driving me crazy. Apparently everyone says; "everyone say they want to skydive at least one."
There does not seem to be any percentage on those people though. [:/]

I would just say something like "many people say" but my english prof. is not the most pleasant person. She would probably tear me apart for not being "more specific."

Given that a significant number of skydivers don't care about packing, it seems erroneous to believe that whuffos will give more than a bitter shit about how to pack a parachute.

Perhaps "How to survive a parachute jump" or some other whuffo-understandable concept will be easier to construct?

It's likely impossible to get a real figure as to what %-age of Americans say they would want to skydive and that's just considering them sober. I would recommend polling. Try a shopping mall, where you might get a large and diverse poll-group.

Visually, I think non jumpers find it interesting to see how a 210 parachute ends up smaller than most backpacking sleeping bags. At least those who participate in gear sports. But it doesn't seem like an interesting read, even with pictures.

This does a little better in paper form, but still needs lots of visuals or it gets tedious quickly.

Since the polling data is nearly useless, and it's just a WAG anyway, why not take the last 10 years of tandem jumps and divide into the population. If you don't do it in 10 years, your stated interest wasn't that real.

300k / year x 10 into 300M gives you 1%.

That's a great idea. Why didn't I think of that. And I was thinking as I was drivng home just a few minutes ago. As of now if I ever quit skydiving it will be because of packing. I freakin HATE it. I'll know it's time to hang it up when I consider not pulling because I don't want to pack when I land. Before ever starting though it was such a mystery. I never could have imagined I would know how to do it. As it turns out it is very simple. Just a pain

Then maybe you should write a "how to" on polling them.
Do you want to have an ideagasm?

I think its something like 3 percent of the population, dont remember where I read it or whether or not it was a reliable source.

It was some article talking about the safety, said something 2.2 million jums and 21 fatalities. Just giving you some stuff to google.
I keep telling my friends skydiving will fix all your problems, Im a fibber you just let go a minute at a time. Choose what to do with it.
