Casch 0 #1 July 29, 2003 For those that have them, when do you wear them? Do you just wear them for a day at the DZ or do you wear it 24/7? Visable to others? How many people here have met another skydiver in the "Real World" because of a visable closing pin? Just today I met B1jercat at the video store I work at. I happened to wear it today (I wear it about half the time), and when he came to the counter he was like "Hey, that's a closing pin!" Mine usually ends up being a conversational piece for the interested whuffo, this is the first time it's done what I got it for, to meet other skydivers. Anyway, any other stories out there? aero04 0 #2 July 29, 2003 I wore it 24/7. It was always visible to others, but it never started a conversation. I haven't worn it since June. I haven't been able to jump since late April and I took it off one day and just haven't put it back on. Kinda like a constant reminder that I'm grounded. Casch 0 #3 July 29, 2003 I can understand that. I like to be reminded on occasion that once or twice a month, I repeatedly fall from airplanes...kinda sets me apart from the crowd, and I've always hated the "crowd"
Brains 2 #4 July 29, 2003 I wear mine all the time. I was sitting on a plane wainting to depart from Biloxi, MS and a guy walks on and says, "where do you jump?" Sometimes i forget i have it on. Another time i was walking out of Hooters and a guy walking in asked me the same thing. Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you. Malfunction 0 #5 July 29, 2003 I wore mine 24/7. I managed to get a date out of it. But as far as having another skydiver say something, it only happened twice: once at the check out counter of WalMart. The clerk was a jumper, only had like 20 jumps though. The other time was at the StLouis Airport, met a jumper from Eloy. Then, tragically, I lost it in freefall. Tonto 1 #6 July 29, 2003 I wear mine 24/7, it's visable, and have for 18 years. I NEVER tell a whuffo what it is. I tell them its the symbol of the handmaiden of the water goddess (I got that from the coolest skydiver on the planet) and if they look stuffy I tell them its the symbol of the fluffer of the handmaiden of the watergoddess. My closing pin necklace has got me a place to stay when I needed it. I was at a railway station in Munich, and this dude says... "You need place to stay? (points to the pin) You Skydiver?" I said "yes" Dude put me up for a couple of nights, looked after me. tIt's the year of the Pig.
sunnydee123 0 #7 July 29, 2003 I just got mine about 2 months ago (been skydiving about 6 months now) and I wear it 24/7 (sporting it with my sis in Cross Keys last weekend). It is just an awesome reminder every time I pass by a mirror or feel it on my chest of how happy this sport has made me so far. No dates or special favors to report yet because of it but I do love telling people what it is - because to a whuffo eye it just looks like a weird piece of metal ...but to me it means BEEEEEG smiles! GOOD STUFF FOR SURE! Dreams become reality, one choice at a time...
sunnydee123 0 #8 July 29, 2003 ooopppssss... oh yeah.......last weekend I used my necklace to snag a broken band off my D Bag that was TRYING to give me a hard time. Was pretty handy actually! Dreams become reality, one choice at a time...

mr2mk1g 10 #10 July 29, 2003 I wear mine 24/7. Also a member of a fairly big University skydiving club and we arrange anual trips out to the US to get a group of students through AFF. We award a pin to every student on completion of the course. They treasure thiers and think of it as a symbol of thier success and entry into the sport. ladyskydiver 0 #11 July 29, 2003 Used to wear mine 24/7, but I lost it on a jump and have been lazy in replacing it.Life is short! Break the rules! Forgive quickly! Kiss slowly! Tonto 1 #12 July 29, 2003 "Then, tragically, I lost it in freefall. " No! That's NEVER a loss. That's where old closing pins belong - to be discovered one day by paelientologists studying the most evolved humans of all time! I lost one freediving off the Turks and Caicos.... saw it spiraling down into the dark - and thought... "How cool is that!" tIt's the year of the Pig. AggieDave 6 #17 July 29, 2003 I just about never take mine off. For one, its tied on, and secondly, I have a Single Helix pin, which is kick ass, so I like wearing it all the time. I have met skydivers that way, more then a couple times. Although, whuffos do ask about it fairly regularly..."Whats that mean?" "It means closure..."--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
Pablito 0 #18 July 29, 2003 I wear mine 24/7 I have 3 of them One to go out with, a freefly one to skydive with and a streight one (my first pin neclase) People always ask about it and I tell them that is a skydiving thing. so I get to promote skydiving to Whoffo's:) Cielos Azules Pablito "If you don't overcome your fears they will overcome you first" Shady Monkey/6Segundos Rodriguez/AKA Pablito
Snowbird 0 #19 July 29, 2003 Yup, I wear it virtually 24/7. It only comes off when jumping and to shower. (I wear no jewelry when jumping) Occasionally people ask me about it. My answer depends on my mood. If I don't want to get into it, I tell them it's a symbol for freedom. I wear it as a sort of talisman, to remind myself that I'm doing this amazing thing and it's wonderful and that having done this, I can do anything. lazerq3 0 #20 July 29, 2003 24/7 except in the shower..only ran into one ohter person that did atandem that new what it was and one kid at the McD's drive through thought it was a "cool" neckless but had no clue to what it was! jasonFreedom of speech includes volume

SonnyChiba 0 #22 July 29, 2003 I wear mine 24/7. It was made and given to me by the strikingly beautiful dove, who posts here quite often. It's made of hemp so I do take it off to wash it in the dishwasher sometimes, besides that it's always on. It definitely increases my aerial jiggitude and I need all the help I can get! ---------------------------- "Insert witty quote here."

skydance1954 0 #24 July 29, 2003 24/7 except to shower. The folks at work have stopped asking what it is because then I go into my "you've got to skydive" rant. But for the past 30 years, I've also had a pull-up cord on every pair of jeans that I own, short or long. This has actually brought more recognition from other skydivers than the closing pin. (and it's gutted 550, too, a REAL pull-up cord) This also helps when you get those inevitable out landings, I've always got one with me.Mike Ashley D-18460 Canadian A-
katiebear21 0 #25 July 29, 2003 Pammi made me the coolest necklace and sent it to me over here and I wear it whenever I can!
