Gatting back; brakes or rear risers?

I know getting back from a long spot has its different methods depending on wind and such. I see a lot of posts about using rear risers. With respect to canopy flight (depending on canopy of course) what method will let you cover more distance over land. FWIW I fly a Spectre 210 at 1.2. A lot of posts say the Spectre does better with rear risers.
