Bob and Mary...only availabel tat Skydive Wissota in Chippewa Falls, WI. Open all year round. If its your first time here don't forget to bring your beer bitches!!!!!!!!

I thought that one of the draws to Wissota was that the beer bitches were already there.:)

I think he was referring to Mary Bauer and Bob Stumm. Although, if I remember correctly, Mary did not participate in the 66-way. Probably because she didn't think it would complete.

Yup, I had one of those "Oh shit!" moments last night as I was falling asleep that Bill was talking about Mary and Bob from the Gang Green group. Done lots of bigways with them.

Little Mary could kick my ass!

Jim--I thought it was clearly stated in the restraining order that you were not allowed to call me a bitch in a public forum again!

hahahahaha Those restraining orders get more and more specific everyday. Tear it up at the bigway camp and remember it isn't couchfreaks so while lingerie dives are fun it might be distracting for the other participants.

Mike - I'm not qualified - I'm the 4-way guy, remember? Especially when we have people like Mary and Bob around. They are the best big way people in the area and that's where you'd start.

I think you might mean Mandy;)

I know I'm damn good, but I can't take credit away from sweet little Mandy, or she'll kick my ass!

I mean Mary. Bob Stumm and Mary Bauer. They know more about big ways than anyone I know. I have a TON of respect for them

And you haven't answered my question about why they could do a 60 way a few years ago. Was that just a fluke?

Not a fluke - Sandy organized it and it was invite only. Still took 3 jumps because even invite only, we had some people that were borderline to being able to maintain composure/patience enough to make it work. I had two guys (barefoot, helmetless, etc) in my loop that kept taking each other out on the first two dives. They always pointed fingers at each other instead of themselves and should have been cut. For some reason, we kept them in the dive. On the last turn, they took their time, and one of them was the very last person to close because he was SO cautious (though in normal order he'd have been about the middle of the docking sequence). But they got in that time anyway. yay

One of the reasons I haven't joined the attempts between now and then was because the core of the attempts had since been with less "invite-only" and used people found via organizing. I'd do a formation load for the heck of it, and when it would look bad enough, I'd just go somewhere else. I'm sorry about that as I'd like to support the big ways more, but there you have it.

This year, Larry and Tom and Mandy were a bit more picky about who they invited.

I thought we'd do it this time. It was a good crowd of talent and the organizing was done really well. And I was happy to find a slot. I'd do attempts with those guys ANY time if they run it this way. It just didn't happen this time and the talent mix just didn't line up. But I learned quite a bit to take to the next one just watching the action. So I got my money's worth.

Maybe next time......

The old saying, “you have to plan for success”, isn’t entirely correct. I think for any group to complete a 66 way formation, you’ll need to plan & practice for success.

You're kind, but I'm not that guy. I work with individual skills and dynamic flying. Big way is a different animal and I am not good at teaching a mindset. Practical vs mental....

however, individual skills go a long ways to any jumping - of course there's help there - but the issue is what does the jumper do with their skills once they get close

the rest is mental - patience, lurking/birddogging, finding your spot, docking level, flying until breakoff, staying in focus (especially in the base) - I'm not sure how much of this is "you either have it or you don't" kind of thing. The same people will keep "docking and hanging" time after time no matter how much better they get at approaching and closing. I don't know how to fix that kind of thing in others. I can help anyone dive, approach and dock....But I can't do anything about those people whose brains turn off once they get within 12 inches of that dock (or after).

We'll do some good bigger loads this year and next. Maybe we can return to the day when MN/WI would bring a good 25 people to Couch each year to help underpin these records.

OK so it sounds like this Bob and Mary are good big way jumpers and from the same DZ (maybe even a couple (bf/gf ??)
So why would he go on the big way but not her, (assuming they both have the skills)?

And someone said that "there were plenty of talented jumpers at the boogie who could have done this but chose not to. Maybe because they had been on so many garbage loads before."

Is this boogie known for bad big ways or garbage loads?

And by big way I mean something that takes at least two planes like 30 or more. It sounds like people weren't doing what they were told. I know you can't control what they do in free fall but if they are breaking the rules with the landing pattern, that would make me very nervous. Obviously we've lost a lot of good skydivers in the last two years due to landing patterns. That's just dangerous.

When I come to this boogie next year I was thinking I might want to get on something bigger. Maybe 30 or so, (I know I'm not ready for 60 ways). But now I'm not sure.

I plan on going to a lot of boogies in the next year and maybe even a big way camp. And now that I finally have a decent job, I also plan on making a lot more jumps than I have been.

When I was jumping with Sandy at Summerfest, I told him I was interested in doing bigger things so he put me me towards the back on the 18 and 20 ways. He said I did a good job and that I was not the weak link. Frankly, we did some fantastic jumps so I'm not sure who could have been a weak link but I was just glad to hear that it wasn't me.
BTW: I'm kind of slight in build and he said that gives me an advantage over a lot of other jumpers.

Like "Justchuteme" said, it sounds like Sandy doesn't organize big ways. I know he didn't do any at Skydive Chicago.

For those who have been to this boogie and know how it works do you think it would be smarter for me to just stick with the organizer I know. (and maybe feel out the big way stuff. like from the ground)
I mean if all I do at this boogie is the kind of jumps I did with him in Ottowa, I will be very happy camper!

Thanks for all your help

(Edited)
I didn't see Rehmwa's posts before. You kind of answered a couple of my questions but now I have another. I thought Justchuteme said Sandy only does regular organizing at this boogie not big ways.??
Now I'm a bit more confused.

If you'd like to take this to PMs, I'll help you out. You're inadvertantly starting to touch into some odd areas for public consumption.

You're on the right track, and any of the organizers at Couch are great people. You won't go wrong.

I just wanted to say thanks to all the people who sent me PMs.

I really got a lot of very useful information about the the big way at the Couch Freak boogie and big ways in general.

I am pretty disappointed to hear that Sandy is not a regular organizer at this boogie. That just makes no sense at all.

He told me about the Redemption boogie in Nebraska that I plan on attending and of course I hope to jump with him at Summerfest next year.

In my experience the organizer makes a huge difference in the outcome of the skydives.

Thanks again everyone.
