Wumpy 0 #1 August 13, 2008 So, if I were to deicde to learn hpw to skydive, how would I find the best place to go? Do places that teach have saftey ratings? What would I look for from them? I did a tandem over the weekend (not something I had ever evn considered, friend talked me into it, havnt stopped thinking about it...), and someone suggested that if I want to see if I'm interested in continuing to take the aff-1 class (thanks for the sugestion!), but I dont want to go somewhere where they won't teach me everything I possibley need to know.... Any of the dropzones on the USPA DZ locator site from the post above will meet minimum safety requirements, follow the same basic student program, etc. (Which isn't to say that some non-USPA DZ's don't have a safe program). If you consult the list on the USPA site, and do a search for your state under the 'Dropzones' tab of Dropzone.com, then post a list of the one(s) you're considering, you'll undoubtedly get feedback from people who jump at that DZ (though must of them will be biased, one way or another...). Another stupid question from someone who doesnt know anything about skydiving...: is there a "season"? I mean, people dont jump in winter, do they? I live in the Boise, ID area and I started AFF Thanksgiving weekend last year. It was really cold, low 20's on the ground, so in the air. brrrrrrrrrrr I did my 9th jump on the 27th of April, so you can see there were some weather issues. But yes, you can jump when it is cold and the ground is snow covered. I wouldn't trade those jumps for anything, even if it was pretty frigid. The view was fantastic. Scrumpot 1 #11 August 13, 2008 Either Orange (jumptown), CPC - Connecticut Parachutists or Pepperell would be just fine. Pepperell uses IIRC, a "tandem progression method" I believe, and is the only one in that group however, that will not start you off, with either AFF or static line - that I think still, both CPC & Orange still offer. Jumptown is also one of my favorite places to visit in the area, and is the nations oldest dropzone. CPC jumps year round. Whichever one you decide - WELCOME to the skies!! I too once went to a DZ, just to give it a try, to "scratch off my list" of things to do at least once, so to speak - - - about 15 years ago!! Plan on the next better half of your life, and half of your income to now go towards skydiving, if you've now caught the bug, anywhere even near what I did.
