nubianecutie 0 #1 March 3, 2005 Someone once told me that two jumpers going at high speed could catch on fire if they bumped into each other. How true is this? Is it an exaggeration or completely false?

Is it an exaggeration or completely false? It happens all the time. Happened to me on two jumps in a row last weekend. Of course the cloud put out the fire, so no problem. mr2mk1g 10 #3 March 3, 2005 Yeah, speed skydivers use the technique all the time. They eat gaseous foods the day before their competition jumps and make use of an afterburner effect.
ontour36 0 #4 March 3, 2005 If they survive the impact OK its the DZSO's temper that ignites first which invariably leads to fires being lit under the participants arse's if unfortuneatly death is a consequence cremation is the logical next step (open coffins not recommended) Catching on fire would be the least of there worries

That's a classic answer! I bet that's why so many belly flyers fart in the plane...gotta make sure the "afterburner" is empty, otherwise they'll fart in freefall and go low! Are you the same person who told a reporter that skydivers don't breathe during freefall? Apprently we absorb oxygen through our skin at that speed. We also don't jump through clouds because the water in the cloud would clog our pores and we would suffocate. I saw that report air on television...TWICE!!! Funny stuff. I'll keep an eye for the skydivers fart for extra speed report.

Perfectly true, but only when exiting from the Space Shuttle during re-entry and wearing metallic space suits.

Three things I wanna know are who exactly told you, where did they hear it and what did they smoke/drink/take that day? I'm not asking because I'm concerned, I'm asking 'cause I really really want some - it sounds like some fun stuff!
