BEST use of non-paragraphs I've ever seen. Really fits the skit to a 'T'. :D

This is one developed scene that's in Fandango that's not in Proof...Thus the spin-off wins hand down from the original.

Unless those are private loans, you're telling us that you want to use our tax dollars to learn to skydive?

Yes, after hearing about Proof for years, I finally got a copy and was really disappointed that this scene was missing. I think the actors in Fandango are also more believable, as the ones in Proof look/sound more like ranch-hands than college students.

Dude - You're the one with no jumps asking how to get by for free in an expensive sport that we all have figured out ways to pay for. And you're insulting the first guy to give you some advice ??? He's got 67 more jumps than you do. I think that you can take your comment about his 5 years in the sport and shove it. This site is full of internet skydiver wannabees, and you're just one more.

Sorry for any offense I may have caused. First off, I'm the first to admit that I'm a wanna be (as in I would like to be a skydiver); and this is fine, assuming I don't talk shit. Second, I don't really see anything wrong with looking for some sort of way to cut down on expenses so that it is feasible for me to enjoy what you guys do (and judging by the responses, it seemed to have worked); I'm not looking for a free way in, just a cheaper way in... Am I not supposed to buy used gear too? Also, I didn't mean to talk shit in my response to the other guy. It was more intended to inquire as to whether or not he, personally, feels that skydiving infrequently (something he appears to do) is not worth it based on personal experience. And if you cut off the quote at the comma and omit the "or are you speaking from experience?" part, of course I sound like a douche. Basically, I just think that if I would have said the same thing in conversation where I had available to me the tools of body language and intonation, nobody would be offended. Anyway, I wrote the damn thing late at night, I certainly respect his 67 jumps, and I'm sorry about the perceived malicious sarcasm in my response (it was more like friendly sarcasm that didn't go over well), I'm a newbie, I'm scum, I should just stay home. I'll delete it. ***

Don't sweat that shit too much. This site is full of jump number nazis, too. For a newbie opinion, I thought your's was remarkably insightful. Wait till you get 67 jumps, then post an opinion here, and more than likely that same guy will pipe in to tell you how few jumps 67 is. Fact is, as skydiving careers go, it's not that many more than what you have. Don't get turned off to the sport because of that post.

There's nothing wrong with trying to get the most bang for your buck. Last I heard, and it was a while ago, The Parachute Center in Lodi, Ca still offers static line instruction, and it's relatively inexpensive compared with most student programs. I can't speak to the quality of the instruction, but just remember wherever you go, it is just as much the students responsibility to seek information as it is the instructor's to present it. Most everything you need to know is out there waiting for you; you simply need to pursue it. Keep that attitude and you'll do fine. Hell, you've already gotten a taste of the skygod lesson, so you're ahead of the game.

Also, I hope you do use my tax money to skydive. I would venture a guess that it would be a better use of those funds than much of what they're paying for now.

When I first got certified I wasn't jumping enough, and needed a few refreshers, which is expensive. The reason I have been in the sport for 5 years is because of a few extended breaks, due to injuries. Jumps 15 onwards have been in the last 6 months, and I have my own rig so its cheaper than renting. I suppose I haven't learned my lesson though, I am typing this with one hand, because 2 days ago I broke my arm and now have 6 weeks off. Damn dirt bikes! I hope you didn't take offense to my post saying to wait, I just think if you really want to jump you should do it 100% instead of juggling buying gear and making jumps, which is hard to do. I hope you can find a good deal on gear, shop around.

P.S. Lodi does not do static line anymore. I have some bummed friends because of this

Edit to add: None of my injuries were from jumping

None taken, seems like sound advice (though I might still ignore it ;). Besides, apparently I'm the one that offended you, but I don't feel like discussing that anymore.

So I can see your point about the whole issue, but I'm not clear as to the specifics of what is considered to be infrequent skydiving. Is there some minimum frequency one must achieve to retain their license, and if there is, what are the consequences of falling behind. You don't need to start over, do you?

I'm still thinking I'll go for it considering how cheap it might be to start out at skydive wissota (I'm still waiting for an email back from them for final prices), and in terms of doing it often, what do you guys consider a reasonable price for used gear?

^ that's pretty nuts, hope you heal quickly on your latest one.

Yes, you are required to jump once a month until you have an A license (25 jumps) which I believe makes it 2 months. But the main problem is the fact that you will not be learning anything new, just relearning the same stuff on those jumps. So your skill will stay really low, and that is dangerous.

Lets break down the costs: Say you have $200 a month you can spend. Thats 1 tandem a month, 4 jumps with rental gear, or 8-10 jumps on your own gear. We are trying to make it as cheap as possible, so we want to end up jumping our own rig. It will take about 6 months of saving to get enough for training ($1200) and a year for gear (~$2400). If you do your training now, you will be splitting that $200 between saving and jumping, say 2 jumps a month renting and saving $100 for gear. It will take you 2 years to get a rig, and those 2 jumps a month you are making are mostly pissing you off because when you are done for the day the group you were just jumping with is still doing a cool ass 4way or something.
Its all a trade off, jump some now and less down the road, or vise versa. Do you want to skydive, or be a skydiver?

Thanks, I wasn't getting any responses from the emails I got on the official skydive wissota page, maybe I'll have more luck with her.

Thanks for the gender correction, Tony!!!

Aaron-I sent you a PM.

And just to make sure to set the record straight, Aaron didn't get a response back from Bob because he's in Alaska jumping on the glaciers at the moment.

And not only do I make the best prime rib, I also scrub toilets, clean the bar, do the dishes, manifest and pack my own parachute!
