sraja 0 #1 June 24, 2008 On the last 3 jumps my slider has been consistently stuck and requires a few pumps on the rear risers. I didn't think much of it but I've been thinking now and I should have a chat with the packer to find out if something is wrong with the gear. Anyone have any clues if this is an indication of something wrong or is it just coincidental to have 3 stuck sliders?
diablopilot 2 #2 June 24, 2008 At your loading on a Safire 209, I'm going to guess that it's simply a result of a slow opening canopy/pack job. You're able to resolve it without issue, right?---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. JohnMitchell 16 #3 June 24, 2008 How high up the lines is it sticking? What's the condition of the lines and the grommets on the slider. Maybe there is excessive wear or burrs causing too much friction. I've never jumped a Safire, but I have jumped canopies where the slider hangs up more than others. Is that common with this canopy? My personal experience is that it is easier and faster to pump the slider down using the toggles instead of the rear risers. You may want to try doing it that way. mircan 0 #4 June 24, 2008 Slider on my Safire 2 was doing that on first 20-ish jumps (it was brand new). I also thought of it as strange (and made a post about, video here). At first, i pumped brakes, then i was on rears, but with time it stopped. my 2cdudeist skydiver #

If you feel that your packer knows your gear better than you, there may be deeper issues to think about. My experience is that pumping the brakes is a better method to bring it down. There's probably nothing wrong. Seriously, how about asking your local rigger to show you the things that need to be checked on your gear to watch for wear & tear. You may discover many interesting things about the equipment that you trust with your life. You may even learn to pack. That's a great way to stay in touch with the condition of your gear. I think you are probably right - I did ask my packer to give me a little bit of a snively opening on the last few jumps that probably caused it.
