jtval 0 #26 January 29, 2008 Think of it as if the parachute was laid out face down while youre packing. Now take the container and flip it between the lines so there is a twist in them. that is a step through. Get's its name because MOST of the time it is caused by STEPPING THROUGH the lines after the canopy is on the ground (after you land) Did that make sense? a lot of times it wouldnt effect the flight so bad that it would result in chopping but if theres any question...cutaway- go to reserve. If the pack job is done properly it SHOULD BE imposible to pack a step through. WHen you run the lines the twist should be VERY OBVIOUS. My step through was a little more complicated. the rig wasnt passed through the complete line set. Give me a day to find the video and I'll post it. Up until now, posting a pic was merely to serve as a description but now it may serve as a learning tool Ill find it. EDIT: for organizational reasons I will post the picture hereMy photos My Videos

plummeteer 0 #29 January 30, 2008 I was already working on a sticker that sized down would work well for this, I'll share it when it's more complete. If anyone still has any interest. Edo Concumbui Aethrae Cernuare
RandomLemming 0 #30 January 30, 2008 Ahhhh, ok - now I know what that is. When we were shown that in packing training, they explained what to check for and how to check the lines, but they didn't tell us it had a name. My standard line checks should keep me from doing that, but I'll do this deliberately when I get my rig back just to make sure that my checks cover this. I always make sure that the lines from the top riser (when rig is on the ground for packing) go to the rear of the canopy, the lines from the bottom riser go to the front of the canopy and that there are no twists in the lines from the risers, up through the slider and from there to the connection points on the canopy. Yeah, it takes me longer to pack than most, but I'm a coward, and it keeps me from sweating too much :D

jtval 0 #32 January 31, 2008 QuoteGive me a day to find the video and I'll post it. EDITWell I guess I lied. It seems like the ONLY video I recorded over was THIS one tandem jump. Its too cleanly recorded over though. It may.for soem reason, be on a different tape but I keep my tapes labeled with dates and info so chronologically it should not be anywhere else. It sucks but I think I may have recorded over it. I guess I lied about that, too. Here are 2 picture. Click on my video link to view the view. phoenixlpr 0 #34 January 31, 2008 I was wondering to have 6 starts or 6 skulls on my helmet, than Ive dropped the idea. The "scum" would not understand, so they don't need to know. Its better to be know as having a lot, their fear can multiply it
ZigZagMarquis 9 #35 February 1, 2008 Not that I'm all anit-Black Deathy and all... but when it comes to reserve rides... why would you use a skull and bones? Wouldn't a nice happy Anyway, I've got a PD-Reserve patch sewn onto one of my jumpsuits, I guess because one of my reserve rides was on a (my) PD-Reserve. ZigZagMarquis 9 #36 February 1, 2008 Quote My last reserve ride was from a packer who pack a step through. It was her last weekend at our DZ and I still dont know how you pack something like that. In my time in the sport, I've seen more than one step through packed and jumped. It usually winds up in a nasty mal and reserve ride. However, I've even seen pack rotations (a variation of a step through) packed, jumped, landed and in the process of being packed again when an outside observer caught it and asked the individual what the heck they were doing!??! Nice avatar, Tim. How much was the surgery? Was it painful?... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.

jtval 0 #49 February 4, 2008 I think in this instance it would be hard to do that even if the lines were stowed. I can't imagine that someone could pull the bag through one set of lines when packing and not see a gigantic fuck up....but then again...I DID receive a step through. Maybe it was plannedEDIT: I stand corrected. This was stepped through ALMOST both sets of lines. Which is more confusing than just one set of lines. I do beleive that this one was stepped through before the packing occured. Just my hunch since multiple people handled the rig from the time I landed til I opened it.
