calicoolguy 0 #1 January 3, 2008 Me and buddy got our first jump, tandem, this upcoming monday jan 7 in lake elsinore. The weather might, just mightttttttttttttt rain. Do they still let ppl jump? Should i resched? Help me out.
kelpdiver 2 #2 January 3, 2008 If you got clumps of clouds dropping rain surrounded by clear skies, you'll get up. It's a very nice time to jump - air is much clearer than typical for that area, and you see how fast you're falling with nearby clouds. If it's totally overcast, it's not going to happen. But given how unreliable the 5 day forecast is in California, is a bit early to bail.
calicoolguy 0 #3 January 3, 2008 im going to be watching it closely and ya as u put the 5 day forcast, heck even day before forcast, are not to reliable. Thanks just needed a kind of reasurance boost.
Baksteen 84 #4 January 3, 2008 I have occasionally done some manifest duty, and several times I had to talk to concerned tandem passengers about the weather. All I can say is, if you're not going to the dropzone, you're definitely not going to jump. Call ahead; if they're still open that day, they probably expect that there might be some jumping, even if it's just a few loads between showers. When you get there, ask some random skydiver whether they maybe have a Great, Exciting or Scary Story for you. We all do, and we never get tired of telling them. If you also get to jump that day it's great - you might experience "cloud rush". If not, well, at least you had an entertaining day out. fastphil 0 #5 January 3, 2008 My favorite line from the movie THE GYPSY MOTHS; "if it rains, we don't jump"...
BerryBoy 0 #6 January 3, 2008 First time I've heard it called "cloud rush"...makes sense though. On my tandem video you can see my expression change from "this is freaking awesome" to a flush faced "oh my goodness, I'm flying 120 MPH straight into a cloud!!!" I'm sure many of you have fallen through clouds before and besides them, but it was absolutely fantastic to go right through one on my first (and only ) jump. Don't get me wrong though..."cloud rush" is freakin' cool! You'll have so much fun! Go for it, you may just get hooked like me and go open a special "skydiving savings" account for AFF and gear when you realize you want more.

Not to mention, that a weather forecast is RARELY correct, unless they are predicting these slow moving systems up north here, grrr. http://planetskydive.net/ - An online aggregation of skydiver's blogs. skybytch 273 #8 January 3, 2008 Props to your "instructor". Not everyone can say they did their first jump and broke their first FAR all at the same time.

Skydivers would never jump through clouds. The rules say so.

Baksteen 84 #11 January 3, 2008 If you fall through the gaps between a lot of very small cumulus clouds, you still get cloud rush.. grimmie 186 #14 January 4, 2008 Call Elsinore in the AM and ask if they are jumping. You are probably driving a long way, so save the gas $$. Or just go out and if it rains go over the hill to Perris and fly in the tunnel. Or go to the Lake Elsinore Casino and make big bucks playing poker! Have Fun! CSpenceFLY 1 #15 January 4, 2008 Very first thing to learn is never look at the weather forcast that far in advance. If those asshole actually knew what the weather was going to do a week from now they would not be working for the weather channel they would own it.
