the camera work is what i like the most its very clear and easy to see what the student is doing

i may relate to it more because its the same routine as i did on my aff 2

I am opposite - camera work was sub-par, but the students rocked! Great jump on the students part...
I've never jumped with a camera on my head so I'm in no position to criticize, but I thought it was kinda sketchy too[:/]
I got nuthin

Here is the BEST all time AFF video ever recorded.

Just let it be known that watching this you are watching the birth of a legend.

If this video reminds you of yourself by any chance then give up straight away as we do not have room for two people of this callibar

um..... 'encouraging'?

excessively enthusiastic?

I didn't read the threads (so I may end up looking foolish), but here are the other threads he's started or participated in:

1. line twist first jump
2. aff first stage done had to come here
3. can skydiving cure depression
4. weight problem
5. In case of my death
6. will a canon ball position get you out of a flat spin

It feels like a really weird CSI connect-the-dots mystery. Where's David Caruso when you need him?

Having just watched the video, my opinion:

Nice video. Very, very standard. Solid student, solid instructors. The video guy placed himself in a bad position at first knowing it was a tracking dive, I don't know where he thought he was going to go.... but they recovered nicely, and the video came out "nice."

That being said, I don't think I see where it is the "best." I have 20 videos that look just like that sitting here on my computer and I never take the time to do much with them, since they aren't anything special.

As far as youtube goes, it is nice and easy to use, and there are good videos, some I haven't seen on SDM. But once you sift through all the crap, you can't beat SDM. Especially since there are 10,000+ tandem videos with the title "NEAR DEATH PARACHUTE MALFUNCTION SKY DIVING ACCIDENT MURDER BLOOD" and all the matching tags to go with it.

I heart SDM.com. It's not pretty, it's not glorious. It works, and I love it. Very useful; recourse as well as a great time-killer
It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye

One of the things that I've noticed about SDM, and this thread as well, is that the idea of a "good video" is split.

Some people will think that you're talking about the quality of the flying done by the skydivers in the video.

Others will think that you're talking about the skill of the videographer, editor, and the quality of the final video.

I would bet that people who want to put themselves in close proximity to students (that would be instructors and coaches) could derive some sort of a benefit from watching the student videos on SDM.

My favorite AFF video (for sheer educational value and a little bit of "what's going to happen next") is: http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=4799 .

Well, I'm not sure that was the greatest choice of vidwos to watch for me, since I've only got categories 1 and 2 done so far. Release dives next and then........... It was a relief to see the instructor catch up with her though and get things under control. Whew!!!!!

Hmm. I've watched about a million AFF and other skydiving videos while getting financing together for the class. I think maybe what the OP liked was the fact that it showed a more than the normal amount of ground training, then the jump itself, and the landing.

I really like SDM, but my computer at work is pretty locked down and I can only watch wmv files. Not SDM's fault, damn corporate America.

I am a firm believer that AFF students should not be looking at future dives even out of curiosity.
Every instructor is different and the instructor you have wants you to learn from him/her and them only, they dont want you to pick up bad habits or think about the jumps to come. You need to concentrate on the level you are training for or have coming up next and not someone elses AFF jumps from a video.

I have seen someone who watched all the SDM aff movies and practiced everything in their house only to repeat many levels and some levels many times.

Well i congratulate you. I belive you will be a much safer skydiver from waiting to see what is next from the instructor who is going to take you up. After all you are learning from him.. if you learn from a video he will then fail you for not doing it his way and your brain will be overloaded with information that is not relevant to what he is teaching you.

Good luck in finishing it, the key to it is to relax. If you are not relaxed you will not have as good a control over your body as you could have.

What you say makes a lot of sense. Besides, skydiving is exciting enough without seeing and setting up expectations for what can happen. I do work on arching/relaxing at home as well as lots of practice visualizing the coming dive that we discussed after my last jump. Now if the weather would just cooperate, I'd get to try out what i've been working on.

I totally agree. I also shouldn't be reading these forums everyday. But I'm not your average bear. The biggest thing I've learned thus far is that I don't know anything, and I completely acknowledge that. When I start my class in three weeks, i'll be nothing but putty waiting to be molded by the capable hands of my instructors. ;)

I have been watching as many videos of aff since starting mine as i can.

This is the first one that really stands out

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyZJPFplwT0&feature=related

thought it was great hope she uploads the rest of her jumps

Watch this. It's a big file, poorly edited, but its a great Level 1 AFF vid. Gives you that happy-feel-good feeling.

Guys, I think all he is trying to say is that you tube is easy. You see
a blurb about the vid, a screenshot, and you just click and play.
Its easy to browse, and easy to watch.

If he had a thousand jumps you tube would still be easier to use :)
Skydiving movies has awesome content and better quality vids, but is not as user friendly.

Its not a dis, its just a fact.

I thought skydivers were supposed to have thicker skins. Getting bent cuz someone prefers the ease of use on you tube is kinda overy sensitive :S
