What can we do about Skyride?

as far as I understand it'll only be charged once per ISP ( is that the correct term?)
So if you went to google and typed up skyride and clicked thier website and repeated this process, they would only be charged once unless or until your ISP address was update.

I just looked to find a seldom used term in my Yahoo Search Marketing campaign, and clicked it 5 times in less than 30 seconds. It'll be tomorrow before I know what they charge me, I'll let you know.

In google, you set a daily budget, so you can not send their costs through the roof. By clicking on the skyrides ads, you are helping to improve their ranking which will help their ad placement. I don't think that you are out to help them.

I see that they have expanded to scam adventurers everywhere. Check out the warning on the home page of this stock car racing experience web site. "Thrill planet" is another business of the same entity that controls skyrides.

They will not go away when all of the dz's stop accepting their certificates, but it certainly would help. I believe that they will just open up more dz's until the only place that you can skydive is a skyride owned dz. For some reason I suspect that won't be a good thing.

That’s not at all true or feasible. Were Ben and Cary to try to open a DZ to compete with me, hire someone to spend 40 to 60 hours a week answering the phone, and running the DZ. Purchase and maintain one or two C-182s, it would go farther toward bankrupting them than “expanding their empire”. The large markets may be subject to “Skyride takeover”, but not the little “hobby businesses” that most 1 and 2 182 DZs out here in fly over country.

As for the larger metro areas, if they try to expand and open satellite DZs maybe it’ll just force the existing DZs to “sharpen their pencils”. Does it really matter who’s behind the new competition? Such as the situation in Kansas City, would it have been a good thing if Ben and Cary were behind the Kansas City Skydiving Center?

So, is this one of their sites?

I wasn't aware that they actually owned DZ's. Some of the listings fake? I can't imagine a DZ in Clearwater.

They own 3 dropzone that I know of.
ASC - Atlanta Skydiving Center in Cedartown, GA (where it all started)
Pell City, Alabama
Pennridge, Pennsylvania..

Ben And Cary (Skyride Founders) started with Just ASC. ASC was known for having dozens of websites in the late 90`s for dropzones that didn’t really exist all over the southeast that would funnel tandems to ASC. They were also known for telling anyone that called they were only 20 minutes away no matter where they called from. It became a big Joke to Skydivers in the area to answer any question about how far something was to say 20 minutes away.
Eventually Ben and Cary formed skyride and took this Idea nationwide.

Almost ALL their websites are or were Fake. (They have changed many of them since the Lawsuits).
There was a great expose` by a news station in Utah linked somewhere in this thread where they had a Site for Skydive Utah or something similar.. Sold someone Tandems and then they found out they didnt have any participating DZ`s anywhere remotely near Utah and then would not refund the money.

It most definately is. Not only does that website not say where the dropzone is, but take a look at this list of their websites. that one is in this list.

http://www.funjumper.com/skyride/skyride.html

Obviously this isnt ALL their websites, but this one you ask about, is there. Just highlight the URL and click "Show" on top of it.

Couldn't B&C just buy you out and then hire you to run the DZ:| and suck in (oops:$) attract customers from a four state area

You might even get a raise:S But i'm guessing you wouldn't be able to lower your morals to fit into B&C's scam :| excuse me I meant business model.

youre right. and I agree that it was a great news report which is unusal.

But, if people see that and they are curious they are going to look on the web and that name name stick in their heads.

the only thing that would have made that report better is if they said something about "for an offical skydiving web site you can look up USPA.org"

WOW!!! That's some pretty powerful stuff. On a side note, that FOX news bit was a bunch of bullshit,

I watched the interview as it was being filmed, (I believe One Sun Productions has a copy of the entire interview filmed on a second independant camera).

If everyone here is so interested in being fair and everyone being honest, than why is it OK to take an hour long interview that was editted down to 3 or 4 minutes as gospel? Over what? According to the report, a credit card got double charged (this has happened to me more than once at SEARS, hell I was accidentally charged $10,000 for a hamburger once. The second complaint was a little more legit in that he got a 40 second freefall, but honestly how many Tandem Masters have never had to get out lower than the advertised height before, or does everyone make 14,000 every time?? (Arizona not included, due to the amazing weather) I mean if ATC says the jump plane can't go above 12,000 ft and they tell you that on every load what are you supposed to do? There was soooo much left out during the broadcast of that BS it's really a shame.

What a lot of people didn't see was Randy Travis ITEAM reporter extrodinair getting frustrated because his facts were wrong and Ben correcting him with numbers that were higher for BBB complaints. A great one was when Randy handed him a complaint regarding a customer that was pissed because they arrived @ 9 am and couldn't jump because it was raining (they didn't want their money back, they were just pissed about the rain). How do you answer that....."Sorry ma'am we're on hold with God as we speak, but St. Peter promises we're next"

I'm not defending the Skyride/ B&C thing, but to call that FOX News ITEAM bit journalism is a sham.

Coming soon to a bowl of Wheaties near you!!

WOW - first time you watched TV? Do you think all those 30 second spots really only took 30 seconds to shoot? Do you think most news stories are unedited?

I agree with what you’re saying, and that was basically my first thought after seeing the interview. There’s a whole lot more “meat” to this issue than they touched on. How about just saying “If you go through this booking agency, you’ll pay more, a lot more! You’ll often not be directed to the nearest, or for that matter best drop zone, and can drive as much as 4 to 6 hours, when there’s a DZ within 30 minutes of your home” etc. People just love to overpay, and drive for hours!

Edit:
Or, just boil it down to 5 seconds and say "They FUCK you at the drive through!!"

You do work for them don't you? Of course you are going to defend them. You profit from their scams.

Oh, was he defending them? I just thought that he meant that the piece missed the meat of the boiler room bull shit that Skyride is legendary for.

Well... it's a start, maybe one of the real news networks who play hour long interviews verbatim(sp?) without bias will pick up the rest of the pieces. ;) What a crock of shit! This guy was probably the one they were splicing into tandem videos instead of the real passengers.. getting paid a comission for that one good landing that people take home and use for advertisement. :D They probably spliced something because the guy chowed

Dan, I got one question for you..

Why do you think there is so much bad thoughts, and bad energy focused toward ASC, and Skyride?

think about it dude...

Hey Dan, How did the I-team do on the Chris Martin story? Do you think they got their facts right? You didn't mention anything about it that's all.:o I agree with you, they could of used much better facts than the 2 they picked. I have got out lower with tandems because of weather. I know the team is doing a follow up story so make sure when they are there, you fill them in on all their bullshit they do:D
With all that's going on in the world, i am suprised they haven't offered Terrorism insurance yet!
