jellob 0 #51 September 6, 2007 AFF2: really.... First load up for the day and winds not quite where we thought. Also, being that this was only my second solo, I took time going through my canopy checks and sort of forgot to orient myself correctly. Was blown past the dz and when I, and instructor on radio, realized I would not make it back, we began to look for alternate landings. My choices were: the woods or a parking lot filled with cars bordered by powerlines. On the radio I was told to prepare for a PLF in the parking lot, but I somehow managed to pilot my canopy to the very tiny patch of grass between the parking lot and powerlines. Scared the crap out of me! My canopy checks go much faster now!!
sdub2221 0 #52 September 7, 2007 Okay, so It was my 16th jump. We had a different pilot that was flyig. He opens the door, and my un-experienced mind tells me that it is time to leave the plane... The first guy to go out didn't have much experience either. Neither one of us spotted and I landed a good mile and a half out. Landed okay in a field. I hopped a fence and started heading down a road, and a truck pulled up with two guys who asked if I needed a ride, I did... I learned an important lesson that day which was last weekend, trust only your eyes and not the person in front of you... It could have been worse, and on the rest of the loads that day I opened right over the DZ.
Broke 0 #53 September 7, 2007 My first jump of Summerfest. I had a 9-way built around me. The orginizer Terry spotted. At break off altitude I turned and tracked. Pulled then did my control check after making sure my airspace was clear. Then I turned to face the DZ. As soon as I saw the DZ rising in my field of vision I knew I had no chance of making it back. I was looking around corn, powerlines, and a little grass strip along the road. A lovely roadside ditch. Turned in on final over the ditch had a nice PLF. As I look up another jumper on my jump was landing 500 feet down the road from me. I walked up to him. Took my cell out of my pocket and called manifest. While on hold a pickup from the DZ swung by to pick us up. Then we drove around picking up the other people on the load. Even the freeflyers. It was a fun rideDivot your source for all things Hillbilly. Anvil Brother 84 SCR 14192
2shay 0 #54 September 7, 2007 Swooped right next to an old folks home with a friend of mine, dead serious. We landed started walking towards the road and an old woman (not at the old folks home by the way) started talking to us. She was an old farm girl, guessing late 60's early seventies by the look of her. Did not even bother her that two guys landed right near her place. She thought it was neat, she was actually weeding her flowers. She stopped everything she was doing and demanded that we let her give us a ride home. So we did, totally grateful, and she even hung out and whatched a few people jump. Pretty funny/cool if you ask me.don't try your bullshit with me!!! airathanas 0 #55 September 7, 2007 My 2nd cutaway at 53 jumps was an off landing. It was at the Ranch and no one made it back. I somehow managed to land in a tiny backyard under my reserve. There was a small pond, powerlines galore, a truck, a house (of course), clothes line, and a dog tied to a stake (not a good sign). I landed on my feet! It hitched a ride back to the DZ, past some ambulances for some jumpers who didn't land as safe as I did. Another one that was amusing- Someone at the Farm had the brilliant idea do to a cross country- BIG mistake. A guy who jumped out before me got tangled on his lines and decided to cutaway- without undoing his RSL - at 10K. And he didn't have a hook knife. Needless to say, I witnessed a double malfunction. Luckily, the guy landed safely in a cow pasture. While watching this, I realized at 7K that there was NO WAY I could make it back. I know CPR, so I wanted to land where the guy landed. After all of this, one of the other jumpers on the load looks down and picks up the guy's reserve handle off the ground!http://3ringnecklace.com/
AUSkyguy 0 #56 September 7, 2007 Landed in a golf course, which is a great place to land. Swooped right down the center of the tee's and down the fairway... Only one golfer was there and he was impressed to say the least. -Chris Martin
faulknerwn 38 #57 September 8, 2007 Landed off last weekend in a farmer's field. The farmer let me use his cell phone, and then gave me a ride back to the gate on his tractor so that I didn't have to climb a fence :-)

dupmaronew 0 #59 September 10, 2007 landed off a while back..... was flying a huge manta and had been flying 220 raiders all day but was renting my gear at the time and they were outa the smaller stuff cause of all the students so i took a manta. turned into the wind and couldnt get back, felt as if i was actually going backwards. so i started to spiral over a clearing in the trees i saw and then came in and didnt like it so i turned off and came in again and did it once more till i liked it alot then halfbraked it in and got the huge rush of the canopy right as i cleared the trees and then just plfed onto the ground. missed a thorn bush by about 3 feet... You're being sarcastic, right? Please? Actually I'm not being sarcastic. On the load where I had a cutaway and had to land off, other people under perfectly good mains tried to make it back and couldn't. They ended up getting injured because they didn't make the proper decisions, and tried to land in areas that weren't good to land in, but they were closer to the drop zone. As for the other guy who had the double malfunction- when he cutaway, he was tangled in his lines and didn't disconnect his RSL. When he cutaway, one of his risers stayed connected (it was pinched due to the pull of the spin that he was in). The reserve opened but the lines were really fucked up. Strangely enough the two canopies didn't tangle with each other. He was finally able to release that one remaining main riser at 3000 ft. He had to hold down one reserve toogle all the way in order for it to fly straight. He scraped up his leg on landing, but was fine otherwise. Scary shit, huh?http://3ringnecklace.com/
