Broke 0 #1 August 6, 2007 Ok so for the past week I have been at SDC at their most truly awesome summerfest boogie. I had a blast, but didn't get in as many jumps as I had wanted due to bugetary constraints. When I arrived I was just scoping things out, and then I ordered a Tonysuit. that took a big chunk out of my budget. Then I had line burns in my canopy, and three patches later another chunk was taken out of my buget. Then on my final jump I was thinking about squeesing three more jumps on my credit card, but then on my last jump of the boogie I had my first cut-away. So for those of us keeping score jump 50 and I had my first reserve ride. I had a line over. I was shitting a brick. It is nice to know that my reserve works. Also I lucked out because we had a good spot out of the CASA Lucky indeed. Brent organized a 4 way. We made thee points, and I blew the 4th point. Instead of funneling the whole formation I just let go. I sank down a little bit then the formation fell apart, and there was a little bit of combat RW involved there. I had a blast. Turned off and tracked at 4.5k, and then deployed. As soon as my canopy opened I felt it turning, so initially I thought on line twists no problem. Then I looked up. As I was looking up I glanced at my alti, and it looked like I was at 3k. I did one flare, but that didn't do anything. I didn't even think about chopping my main. It just kinda happened. I was in the saddle of a fully functional reserve at 2k. I PLFed back in the main landing area, my main and freebag landed just the other side of the runway, and after giving the thumbs up to everyone so they knew I was not injured I just cloapsed on the ground to catch my breath. I had a blast at SDC, and I would like to thank organizers Terry and Brent as well as all the experianced jumpers who said they like to find the low timers like me to jump with such as Marty (Hellfish Number 2) and Bob G who is just awesome. Their positive attitude is why I love this sport. My first jump there was a four point 9 way with my first way the fuck out there landing, I also made a 7 way, and a number of 6-ways, 4-ways, and 2-ways. I learned a lot. All in all I had a blast. And now that I watched the packers for a little bit the past couple of days I know what I was doing wrong to give myself a lineover. I won't do that again. jeremy_o 0 #3 August 7, 2007 hmm. line burns THEN a lineover? How are your packing skills? Or did you use a packer? Good job on staying alive! I can only imagine how fun Summerfest was. I've only been to SDC once before but it was really nice, won't hesitate to go back if the timing is right. http://planetskydive.net/ - An online aggregation of skydiver's blogs.
