nks487 0 #1 July 15, 2007 I know it is a silly question but as beginner to skydiving it is a thing that bothers me (more) after some girl told me (in a bull riding forum lol!) that it happens often and I should take up bull riding instead! Just from looking at the fatality stuff I'd guess that most accidents happen when skydivers land too fast. Which would be in my book as a user error rather than equipment fault! Cheers, Neil. And what was the skydiving experience of the girl in the bull-riding forum? I'll bet she also thinks that bull-riding is perfectly safe...

It's true - while high speed (intentional or not) landings are currently dominating the fatalities you'll notice if you go back through history (and reasons for the bulk fatalities change every few years btw) you'll notice that the MAJORITY of skydiving incidents are caused by human error. That's not to say that equipment error doesn't happen - I can think of 2 people in the last 2 years (one of them a fellow competitor) who died because of equipment malfunction. It's not as common these days but it can, and does, still happen. Blues, IanPerformance Designs Factory Team
