PhreeZone 20 #2 May 15, 2007 Typically to do a demo jump like this it either requires your PRO rating or C licence and a sign off to the FAA if its a Class 1 open field demo. You'll also need to have the paperwork filed for the NOTAM via the FAA. Unless you've got a ton more experience then your profile says, its not really possible or smart at your experience level.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

BillyVance 34 #4 May 15, 2007 Quoteis there anyway you could do it tandem? No. As far as I know, both the tandem instructor and passenger has to be licensed skydivers for a field demo. Sorry, but unless a regular tandem has a really really bad spot off the drop zone, tandem demos are a rarity."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban
BillyVance 34 #5 May 15, 2007 For what it's worth, I wanted to jump into my high school class' 10 year reunion, but I only had about 200 jumps at the time, and there was a wide open field too. But it was in the middle of a city and thus required a NOTAM, FAA approval, etc, and my instructor said no, not with my experience level. Now I'm PRO-rated and can do just about almost any demo I need to do."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban
billvon 2,990 #6 May 15, 2007 Your best approach is going to be talking to a local demo team. They will be familiar with the local FSDO, know which TM's have done demos before, and have an idea on costs for insurance, aircraft, ground crew, smoke etc. A few things before you start though: It will be quite expensive. It will NOT be just a jump ticket. There is no way you should do this at your experience level as a solo jumper. Your scenario is the classic setup for a serious incident. (Relatively new jumper, situation where you think "I HAVE TO JUMP! IT'S MY PROM!") It will require planning beforehand and coordination with the DZO and your school (or wherever the prom will be held.) The property owner has to be OK with both the use of his land and with the liability it entails.

Quite a few of our demos have tandems, a nice way of letting the mayor/boss/sponsor/... participate. They require a bigger landing field but they're done regularly here. Then again, we don't argue much about the age of tandem passengers here either, nor about night-tandems ciel bleu, Saskia

Scoop 0 #18 May 15, 2007 Quote is there anyway you could do it tandem? You WILL NOT look cool being flown in as a tandem passenger. Well.... maybe whuffos would like it actually. I'd liken it to arriving in a motorcycle side car I've noticed this prom bullshit is getting more common over here. Never had them in my day! Talk about putting more social pressure on kids in their most sensitive years. Enjoy your day. At least you know you won't hurt yourself, faint or butcher your clothes before the proms even got into full swing. That definately isn't cool. Besides, on that horrible club kit with uncomfortable leg straps do you seriously want bruised/sore crotch on prom night?

Travman 6 #22 May 16, 2007 Get a really experience guy with a full face helmet to do it. He lands, waves to the cowd, then walks out of sight. Then you trade places with him and emerge and wave again and take your helmet off.
