padskydive 0 #1 May 8, 2007 Being forced to not to skydive since Florida DWR in Oct 2005 due to number of shits happening to me - divorce for starters... things are looking better for me now. I am looking at coming back into skydiving within a month. I have couple of factors that I am concerned about which are... Do I need to be re-trained? As far as I know I do need reserve re-cap (Which I have been practising quite often), I also have been re-packing my main once a month to keep me "current". The other thing is that I have done nearly 200 jumps on my stiletto 150 before putting skydiving on hold. So what's your opinion on my returning jumping with stiletto or should I go for crappy hired canopy for few jumps before using my stiletto? Although I land my stiletto 98% perfect every time. glorystomper 0 #2 May 8, 2007 I just came back to the sport after a long lay-off myself and I would strongly suggest that you start out with a little bit larger canopy. You may only do one or 2 jumps on it and feel great, but you also might find that you'll need a few more to get fully back up to speed. Better safe than sorry! padskydive 0 #3 May 8, 2007 How long was your lay-off? I was personally thinking of using something like Sabre 2 170/190 for at least several jumps then jump with my main and at least pull at 5+,000 for few jumps to re-feel the main I had been jumping... Is that jumping wisely?

Authorities on flying parachutes like Brian Germain http://www.bigairsportz.com/pdf/bas-sizingchart.pdf would suggest a lower wing loading for you even if you were current. Parachutes have sharp pointy teeth. Smaller parachutes have bigger sharper teeth like a T-rex. When I stopped jumping for six months due to a horrible sneezing accident, I upsized two sizes and a planform (Spectre 135) for a few jumps and put a few dozen jumps on a canopy a size bigger (Stiletto 120) than what I usually jumped (Samurai 105) even though I had 1500 jumps with most of the last 900 at the same wing loading (my belly got smaller) and a few hundred jumps on that canopy. More than a few jumps under a larger, less agressive canopy would be prudent.
