Is USPA membership really cheap, or is APF and BPA membership obscenely expensive?

Recommended Posts

Don't know about APF but with regards to BPA:

1) the USD is in the pan at the moment so instead of 1.2 $/£ its 2.0 $/£ - makes the sums we pay for membership look twice as bad as they actually are.

2) we get a hell of a lot more for our money - like $4,000,000 personal liability insurance - that's the bit that costs us the money, (as in $200 of the $300 total goes towards insurance).

3) there are vastly more skydivers in the US than in the UK and Oz - more people means more buying power and more people to spread the running costs around.

4) the cost of living in the UK is much higher than in the US and people are paid more, thus it costs more to run the organisation.

5) BPA membership is obscenely expensive.

Unfortunately I can't remember exactly how much my first BPA membership cost me 4 years ago, but I am fairly sure that it was less than half what it is now.

So yeah, obscenely expensive.

All forms of aviation are ridiculously cheap in the United States.
Sad thing is, most Americans do not appreciate how fortunate they are.

Hence why you won't see me whining about $22 full altitude jump prices again.

My guess would be having the admin costs spread across 30,000 skydivers instead of 2,000.

Why don't you email the APF and ask them? They're very good at responding to queries.

I'm still waiting to hear back on what they're going to do about "Everyone gets their bags opened and manually searched before some commercial flights" shit going on in the country B|

That doesn't make sense... or I'm reading you wrong. If the pound is worth 2 US dollars, then that means the brits are really paying $600 US dollars for a membership, making it twice as bad, not half as bad...

No, you missunderstand.

BPA is about £150. At today's exchange rate that's pretty much exactly $300. Use an exchange rate from say 2002 and suddenly BPA only costs $200. Use other more "normal" exchange rates and you get a much lower cost in dollars than you do with today's exchange rates.

Thus the present exchange rate makes the cost look going on twice as bad as it actually is.
