JumperWillis 0 #1 April 19, 2007 What obstacles do you have at your DZ and have they ever been a problem for student jumpers?
steveorino 7 #2 April 19, 2007 Almost none. Big open landing area at our DZ. It would appear intential to hit anything besides the hangers. Well, there was this one girl who landed in the only tree on the DZ about 1/2 mile north of the hanger. steveOrino
mnskydiver688 0 #3 April 19, 2007 There are sewage lagoons directly to the west of the DZ. Students have to wear flotation devices and we have a little inflatable raft just in case. You have the hangars which seem to attract students, other than that it is all open fields up here in the northland. Sky Canyon Wingsuiters
gearless_chris 1 #4 April 19, 2007 I've hit 2 different fences and almost got hit by a car(should've been a fence to stop me). The landing area is huge with no obstacles except the hangar which did get hit by a student(still on the radio)."If it wasn't easy stupid people couldn't do it", Duane. DougH 270 #6 April 19, 2007 Lots and lots of trees, we should give out arborist numbers for people landing in them. Small numbers of outs depending on wind directions so you have to make the conclusion that your not getting back rather fast. A security fence topped with barbed wire. A down hill field. Powerlines. Neighborhoods with power lines. And a river. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

SkymonkeyONE 4 #8 April 19, 2007 Z-hills has a huge swamp to land in if you get a shitty spot or fly yourself downwind in that direction for too long. Raeford has tremendously tall pine trees to land in if you spot badly or fly yourself into them. Most EVERY dz has some form of obstacle that has been hit at least once per year. monkycndo 0 #9 April 19, 2007 My local DZs have landing areas that are pretty large and obstruction free, with good outs. One has a pump house that has been landed on. But then just the usual- fences, trees, power lines. But you really have to FUBAR to hit those.50 donations so far. Give it a try. Ironmanjay 0 #10 April 20, 2007 LOL to add an unusual one there is a gun shooting range right next to the experienced jumpers landing area, and they're shooting their guns all day long Other then that, power lines, ditches, buildings etc etc
phoenixlpr 0 #11 April 20, 2007 We have VOR antenna and forest around the landing area. I have not seen or heard anyone messing around. I can ask some older jumpers for stories.

jbanning 0 #13 April 21, 2007 I think we have one of the smallest landing zones in the US, i frequently land on the grass runway, but then I also suck under canopy. I killed a metal windsock pole a few months back and was fortunate to walk away with minor injuries!

Stumpy 284 #17 April 22, 2007 There's a dz in the UK where you have to watch out for the lion enclosure! (at least thats how i remember it, i don't think i am exaggerating!!!) Never try to eat more than you can lift

FallingDuck 0 #20 April 23, 2007 We used to have a barbed wire fence and that did nothing more than scare the students. Now we have to land a little away from the airport so the student situation is a little hard because if any of them land off dz there will be big political problems for the dzo.
