shortyj 0 #1 February 27, 2007 The video isn't the greatest but I was wondering what kind of malfunction was this? And how to prevent it? It looks like it was a S/L jump when his chute depolys it looks fine but then it starts spinninghttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pT3RwH0omK0 sorry I don't know how to make it clicky. Feel free to throw that information in tooPlaytime is essential.

Miami 0 #3 February 27, 2007 Most likely a tension knot, although while it looks like both brakes are stowed a premature brake release would look very similar. How to prevent a tension knot? Replace your lines when they are becoming worn, stow your lines neatly, and be stable when you deploy... For clicky help look here. Hope that helps...Miami
inextremis 0 #4 February 28, 2007 I guessed before scrolling down to Miami's post, and my guess was "tension knots involving D or C/D lines on the right side." I've not seen a reserve like that in quite a while. Blue skies, Tom
Miami 0 #5 February 28, 2007 Not positive, but it looks like a Swift...an older 5 cell reserve prior to the Swift Plus line of reserves. The first rig I ever owned had one in it, but I never had the opportunity to use it.Miami

quinny 0 #7 February 28, 2007 Tha efact that he had a camera???on his helmet makes me think it is strange. The fact that he slid on his ass makes me think a novice. On one point of the video it looks like one arm is up and the uther is down inducing the spiral. Hard to tell. Why wait so long under a spinner? All very questionable
pilotdave 0 #8 February 28, 2007 That was a first jump static line student. I'd guess it's a radio on his head, not a camera. Dave
Andy9o8 2 #9 February 28, 2007 If there's a lesson in there, it's that reserves can have a long snivel, too. They shouldn't, but they sometimes do. Act accordingly. (If I say anything else, I'll piss off my gear mfgr. )
popsjumper 2 #10 March 1, 2007 Ahhhhh yes...the old tandem butt-slide landing. Jason may want to say a prayer of thanks for not having a broken tailbone or jammed/crushed vertebrae and discs now.My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. kkeenan 14 #11 March 1, 2007 That certainly was a long-ass snivel. That was the scariest part of the video. Kevin_____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

awindrider 0 #15 March 4, 2007 Being a new guy I hesitate to say, but was there a full test of the breaks followed by a sudden full release? With the result that the canopy sped up so much faster than the diver that it was more in front of him than over him. Things go wrong when that happens. flyboyne 1 #16 March 4, 2007 It looks like the main D-bag and pilot chute are hung up on somthing causing the spin.
